Job Description : Overview
The Engineering Insights team are primarily focused on driving up engineering
standards across the FT. Inspired by our vision, “Empower Product & Technology to deliver reliable, risk-aware products for the FT and its customers”, we’ll be contributing to the department’s goal of having a “Golden path” for engineering. This will include:
Defining and documenting engineering standards
Using automation to measure engineering quality and target recommendations at the right people
Where appropriate, building the tools that other teams will use in production to achieve higher standards more efficiently

What you’ll be doing
Produce robust, well-tested and secure code which helps us to solve business problems
Interact with the users of our tools, building a culture where everything we deliver is well-crafted and user-focused
Contribute to the development of functionality from requirements (typically expressed as user journeys or similar) through to operating in production
Manage own workload and collaborate as part of an agile team of engineers
Collaborate with other team members through review
Responding to issues raised via GitHub, email, or our support Slack channel.
Essential skills
Good programming skills, preferably in Node.js and the web platform (HTML, CSS, JavaScript)
A keen focus on customer needs and collaborative attitude
Excellent communication skills
Demonstrable automated testing skills, with exposure to a range of mocking techniques and frameworks
Desirable but non-essential skills
Operating as well as building systems
Modelling data (e.g. database schemas or knowledge graphs)
Designing APIs (including GraphQL) and working with microservices
Setting up continuous delivery pipelines and related tools
Experience with a range of data storage options
Setting up and configuring JavaScript build and test tools (e.g. Webpack, Jest, ESLint)
Experience contributing to product & delivery decisions
Hands on experience with AWS (or a comparable cloud platform), especially CloudFormation, IAM and Lambda
