About the Team
The IT (Information Technology) team is a small but passionate team consisting of the Operational and the Application Development team. We play a key role in the success of the organisation through new and existing technological support.
Our team members are flexible and engaged, and responsible for: system enhancements; developing new and supporting existing applications; transitioning on-prem applications to the cloud platform; providing technology architecture solutions and consultancy; project delivery; infrastructure and systems administration; operational support and asset management; supporting cyber security; and supporting the organisations strategy with the latest available technology.
About You
The Cloud-based Application Developer is responsible for actively participating in the design, development, testing and implementation of web and cloud-based applications. This includes the companys internal and public facing student management systems, content aggregation systems, content management systems and BI interfaces. In addition, this role will assist with the maintenance, enhancement, and ongoing development of RMIT Trainings commercial product range.
This role is pivotal to solving ongoing and new business challenges. The Cloud-based Application Developer will lead, using agile software delivery methodology, the conception, development and delivery of innovative solutions. They will analyse and understand business and end user requirements and build great software solutions.
The Cloud-based Application Developer reports to the Project Delivery Manager is expected to work collaboratively with other Developers and project team members to share knowledge, resolve issues and ensure delivery of products to agreed schedule, quality and functional specifications
To be successful in this position, youll have:
Essential
Relevant tertiary qualification in software development or relevant technology
Proven experience in a similar role within a professional services environment
Commercial programming experience in object-oriented programming with ASP.NET, C#, PowerShell scripting and PHP in single and multi-threaded environments
Commercial programming experience in functional programming such as React
Proficiency in cloud platform such as Azure and AWS in –
App/API designee and development, DevOps fundamentals
Cloud platform architecture/designing,
Performance optimisation
Basic networking, security
Scalability
Relevant certifications in cloud platforms such as Azure and AWS
Strong skills and demonstrated experience in data integration between different systems
Knowledge of relational technology and skills in developing and using Structured Query Language (SQL) to create Stored Procedures, Triggers and indexes in Microsoft SQL Server and MySQL
Sound experience and skills developing, maintaining and deploying web-based applications using XML, XSL, JavaScript, jQuery, Cascading Style Sheets (CSS)
Demonstrated experience using full-term software development lifecycle, including the use of a revision control system such as Bitbucket, SVN
Understanding of industry standards and best practice development methodologies
Ability to quickly learn and adapt to new platforms, applications systems and technologies
Strong stakeholder management (internal, customer and vendor) skills
Strong aptitude for critical thinking and problem solving with the ability to shift focus from the big picture to the details to ensure desired quality in solution
Well-developed communication (written and verbal) and presentation skills
Strong organisational and time management skills, with the ability to deliver to tight deadlines and perform under pressure, while maintaining high attention to detail
Ability to work independently, as well as collaborate and work effectively as part of a team
Demonstrated commitment to quality control and continuous improvement
Desirable
Understanding of the workflow of Learning Management Systems, such as CANVAS
Proven experience working with CANVAS API
Certification in data science
Demonstrated skills in database management
Demonstrated skills and experience in building Business Intelligence reports using Microsoft PowerBi
Programming experience with classic ASP
Understanding of common Web Application security threats
Experience in identifying and analysing scan reports produced by security scanners such as Nessus, Acunetix
Experience in creating security processes and procedures to avoid web vulnerabilities
