Are you a Registered Nurse looking for a new and exciting opportunity? Are you an enthusiastic, caring and a highly motivated Nurse. Would you like to gain Orthopaedic experience and develop your nursing skills?

As a Registered Nurse you will be responsible for supporting and assessing the care needs of patients and develop a programme of care which is evaluated and amended, as appropriate, and delivered the high-quality care. As the Registered Nurse, you will also be required to undertake nursing procedures and techniques in accordance with agreed policies and guidelines that we hold. You will also ensure that the rights, dignity and confidentiality of the patient are protected at all times.

Main duties of the job

As the Registered Nurse you will need to comply with the Drug Custody and Administration Code of Practice. You will also be required to maintain an awareness of the developments in the care and treatment of patients in order to be able to carry out duties competently and efficiently.

You will also have an awareness of reporting all accidents and untoward incidents to the Nurse-in-Charge of the ward and complete an incident form in accordance with Trust policy, in compliance with clinical governance. You will also assist the Sister/Charge Nurse in the implementation, monitoring and evaluation of all policies and procedures to continue improvement.

The Elective Orthopaedic Service cares for a variety of Orthopaedic patients ranging from day case surgeries to complexed revision joints aged 16 plus. We follow the enhanced recovery after surgery programme and work closely with the physiotherapists and occupational therapists with an aim to discharge primary hip and knee replacements 3 days post operatively.

We offer an orthopaedic induction programme in which staff can complete application of traction training, plaster training and a variety of orthopaedic skills, and enhance knowledge.

We are a 26 bedded ward, and our team prides ourselves on team working, forward thinking and the delivery of high standards of care with patient safety and quality being our priority.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

The successful Registered Nurse will be responsible for ensuring that the care needs of patients are met through the delivery of high quality patient care. The successful candidate must document the condition and progress of patients and report to senior nursing staff and/or medical staff any areas of concern.

As the Registered Nurse you may supervise unregistered (and at times registered) staff, as appropriate. Effective communication channels are important and must be aware of the need for confidentiality both in the written and spoken word.
You must comply with all Hospital policies with particular regard to the policies and procedures carried out in maintaining staff and patient safety.

The system will provide us with an outcome of your check which will be stored securely on your personal file along with all other pre-employment check documentation.

Consent:

Transfer of information: If I have previous NHS service – I consent to the transfer of my Electronic Staff Record (ESR) data between this and other NHS Trusts. I also consent to the Occupational Health Department confidentially accessing my occupational health records from my current or previous employer in order to check the status of my vaccinations, immunisations s and screening tests as relevant to the post. I understand this is an automated process and the information will only be used for these purposes prior to me taking up the position at NUH.
Disclosure and Barring Service: Your post maybe subject to a DBS check which incur a cost dependent on the level of check required (£45 for enhanced and £28 for standard). I agree to reimburse Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust the cost of a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check if it is required (by deduction from first month’s pay). Should I decide to withdraw from my job offer, I agree to reimburse Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust the cost of the DBS check undertaken by cheque or other agreed method.
