Position Summary

NextNav’s Pinnacle technology, available in more than 4400 cities and towns across the United States, delivers highly accurate vertical positioning to transform location services, reflect the 3D world around us, and support innovative, new capabilities including supporting first responders to helping to shape the metaverse. NextNav’s TerraPoiNT network delivers accurate, reliable, and resilient positioning, navigation and timing (PNT) services on a terrestrial network to support critical infrastructure and other GPS-reliant systems in the absence or failure of GPS. This position will consist of developing scalable software tools to handle large volumes of network and field data, including optimized database queries for time series data and geospatial data. Such tools will be developed for widespread use within NextNav for help in analysis, debugging and improving the accuracy and reliability of the NextNav Pinnacle location solution. This position will work closely with different engineering teams in order to integrate tools across the NextNav system.

Responsibilities
Work with engineering teams to define specifications and requirements for systems tools, including quality benchmark tests and graphical interfaces.
Work with customer-facing and business development teams to develop support and visualization tools/interfaces, including tiered support tools.
Work with Software teams to integrate tools and validate, including unit testing, regression testing, and end to end system testing, as well as debugging outstanding issues that may arise.
Proactive approach to working with the most up-to-date tools and programming techniques.
Develop strong domain expertise with current and next-generation databases, data formats, and query languages, and their performance tradeoffs under a wide range of conditions.

Desired Skills & Experience

Required:
Master’s degree with 2 years’ experience, or PhD in engineering disciplines such as mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, or sciences such as mathematics, statistics, computer science, physics, or another closely related field.
Hands-on experience with databases and big data programming.
Experience with Quality Assurance and last-mile software integration.
Proficiency in one or more of the following languages and frameworks: Python, SQL, Hive, Kafka, Spark, Faust, etc.
Ability to take initiative and work independently and collaboratively across multiple departments.
Strong written and oral communication skills, with the ability to communicate clearly and effectively across teams.

Preferred:
Big Data computing experience, including Hadoop, Pig, Spark, Pinot, etc.
Experience in previous software development role, with track record of proven results.
Familiarity with technology standards such as 3GPP and scientific standards bodies such as NIST.
