About the team
The Engagement Branch is seeking to fill an Assistant Director position within the Community Engagement (CE) Team. Community engagement is an important component of the FWO’s functions to provide education, assistance, advice and guidance to employers, employees, outworkers, outworker entities and organisations, and promote and monitor compliance with workplace laws.
The CE Team leads the FWO’s strategic engagement work with the community including the delivery of initiatives that support the FWO’s approach to priority sectors and issues, and targeted engagement strategies designed to increase the FWO’s educational reach for vulnerable workplace participants.
What are we looking for
We are seeking an individual who can lead a small, geographically dispersed team to deliver and maintain a wide range of activities with high quality outcomes, including drafting correspondence and briefing materials, strategies and project plans, undertaking research, and leading the development and delivery of Branch projects including engagement strategies.
The successful applicant will possess the following attributes:
must be able to work collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to improve outcomes for vulnerable workers
have experience is managing and upskilling staff to ensure development and workforce management across a range of projects
have experience contributing to strategy development and implementation, and experience managing staff and major projects
strong analysis and writing skills are essential, as is initiative, interpersonal and negotiation skills
xperience in delivering high quality presentations, digitally and face to face, to a wide range of government and non-government audiences
will be aware of and sensitive to issues relating to vulnerable workers in Australia, display strong political nous and have experience developing collaborative networks and managing senior stakeholder relationships
Typical Duties
The typical duties of the Assistant Director – Community Engagement include, but are not limited to:
Leading the research, design, implementation and evaluation of targeted initiatives/strategies to educate and communicate with vulnerable communities or target sectors
Co-ordinating Taskforce meetings and reporting, Grants Program reporting and invoicing, and Multicultural Access and Equity Plan implementation and reporting
Co-ordinating webinars/train the trainer sessions for stakeholders and workplace participants, and approving content for publishing with external stakeholders
Developing and maintaining strong working relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including other Government agencies and community organisations
Leading a small team of geographically dispersed Engagement Officers, and
Representing the FWO in relevant government and non-government forums and committees.
Selection Criteria
Demonstrated experience coordinating, managing and delivering strategic projects, considering organisational priorities, Government policy and the external environment when performing tasks
Excellent stakeholder and relationship management skills with the ability to develop strong, productive and collaborative networks
Outstanding written and oral communication skills and the ability to translate complex information into succinct materials for different audiences
Experience managing geographically dispersed teams including strong capabilities in planning, prioritising and managing personal and team workloads to deliver outcomes in a high-pressure environment within tight timeframes and in liaison with multiple senior stakeholders
Experience in upskilling and developing staff, remotely and face to face
Demonstrated knowledge of Australian workplace laws or the ability to quickly acquire this knowledge.
