Band 5 Biomedical Scientist – Histopathology
We are pleased to be offering an exciting opportunity for a committed HCPC registered Biomedical Scientist to join the Histopathology service in Nottingham. The successful candidate will join a highly motivated team who aspire to provide the best possible service to patients across the region.

We are looking for a good team player who can effectively contribute to the ongoing development of the Histopathology department in a large teaching hospital. Applicants must be able to commit to Trust’s Values and Behaviours.
The vacancy is in the Surgical Histopathology Laboratory team, which participates in BMS dissection, frozen section production, paraffin wax processing, special staining, non- gynae cytology, renal and Mohs’ services.
The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate competency of all routine cellular pathology techniques and ideally have experience of the specialist techniques associated with renal and frozen section service delivery.
Working for our organisation
The department is approved for training by the IBMS/ HCPC, and is
accredited by CPA and holds UKAS ISO:15189 accreditation.
Working hours are within 8.00 a.m. to 8.00 p.m Monday to Friday and may require some Saturday working . You will be required to work in the Histopathology laboratories on both QMC and City Hospital NUH Campuses.
Informal visits to the department are strongly encouraged.
Detailed job description and main responsibilities
This is an AFC Band 5 post. Candidates must be registered as a Biomedical Scientist with the Health Care Professions Council. Evidence of level of completion of the portfolio and HCPC registration will be required at interview. It is desirable for applicants to have a Biomedical Science degree, and be members of the IBMS and demonstrate a commitment to continuing education and training.

State Registered BMS (HCPC)
Demonstrates a commitment to continuing education and training-Relevant MSc/ IBMS Specialist Portfolio completed/ ongoing
Desirable criteria
Membership of IBMS, Biomedical Science degree
Demonstrates a knowledge and awareness of instrumentation, method development and new technologies
Experience
Essential criteria
Able to demonstrate competency in Histopathology laboratory techniques
Demonstrates ability to organise work effectively
Desirable criteria
Specialist Histology advanced techniques, e.g. frozen sections

Salary: The quoted salary will be on a pro rata basis for part time workers.

The system will run a check against the key security features within your documentation. The system will provide us with an outcome of your check which will be stored securely on your personal file along with all other pre-employment check documentation.
Consent:
Transfer of information: If I have previous NHS service – I consent to the transfer of my Electronic Staff Record (ESR) data between this and other NHS Trusts. I also consent to the Occupational Health Department confidentially accessing my occupational health records from my current or previous employer in order to check the status of my vaccinations, immunisations s and screening tests as relevant to the post. I understand this is an automated process and the information will only be used for these purposes prior to me taking up the position at NUH.
Disclosure and Barring Service: Your post maybe subject to a DBS check which incur a cost dependent on the level of check required (£45 for enhanced and £28 for standard). I agree to reimburse Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust the cost of a Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check if it is required (by deduction from first month’s pay). Should I decide to withdraw from my job offer, I agree to reimburse Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust the cost of the DBS check undertaken by cheque or other agreed method.
