Full time, permanent position
Immediate start in a healthcare organisation based in a fully digital hospital on Macquarie University Campus (North Ryde)
Competitive remuneration packages ($97,000.00 – $100,000.00) as per the Enterprise Agreement and access to the full salary packaging benefit with Maxxia (including venue hire, meals, entertainment and novated leasing).
Extensive Macquarie University facilities including sporting facilities, gym and pool, and Macquarie University Childcare at a reduced staff rate.
THE ROLE
We have an exciting opportunity for a suitably experienced Clinical Nurse Specialist (CNS) Grade 1 on a full-time basis to join our team. The successful candidate must be a dynamic and experienced scrub nurse who is keen to contribute to in our Theatre department with experience in cardiac and vascular surgery. At Macquarie University Hospita l we offer extensive cardiac and vascular surgery including Coronary artery bypass grafts, mitral valve repairs, lobectomies and various robotic surgeries.

Key Accountabilities include (not limited to):
Interpret assessment data to formulate plans of care and proactively initiate care within scope of nursing practice.
Proficiently perform specialty-specific procedures, evaluate outcomes and escalate concerns.
Maintains good customer relations in a way that acknowledges dignity, culture, values beliefs and the rights of individuals and groups
Assists with the orientation and support for new staff
Assists with completion of competency training, growth and development opportunities of self and others
Effectively communicate with the patient and family including the sharing of information and providing appropriate education in line with patient’s health literacy.
Adopts a consultative approach within a multi-disciplinary work environment whilst ensuring the patient’s duty of care is fulfilled
Ensures timely, open and honest communication with all clients and stakeholders
Participates in audit preparation and audit processes
Adheres to hospital/MQ Health policies and procedures as well as legislation affecting nursing practice at all times
Ensures all mandatory education and competencies are completed in a timely manner
Provides care in accordance with documented care or treatment plans while prioritizing workload based on patient needs, acuity and optimal time for intervention
Ensure usage of the MQ Health IT systems appropriately and efficiently
Works within their scope of practice and practices professionally and ethically according to the aims, objectives and core values of MQ Health and as outlined by the National Practice
Standards and Professional Code of Conduct by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia
Demonstrates a willingness to work positively within a team to achieve team goals and the provision of excellence in care/service delivery
Participates in and contributes to occupational health and safety activities to ensure a safe work environment for clients, community, staff and visitors
Complies with obligations under Work Health and Safety Act 2012
Ensures that all documentation is accurate and completed in a professional and timely manner and in accordance with MQ Health Policy
Actively promotes and participates in the identification, design and implementation of quality improvement and evidence based research activities to improve clinical service delivery and patient outcomes, including policy review and development, self-initiated and directed by other members of MQ Health
Ensure incidences are reported accurately and in a timely manner
Reviews and evaluates reported incidents and managers risk as per policy
Evaluates performance in a planned and systematic way and seeks feedback from customers in relation to the service delivered by the unit
Seeks out guidance and support from appropriate clinicians as required
Provides recommendations to the Nurse Unit Manager regarding day to day clinical and operational matters and escalates any decision that falls outside routine clinical and operational service delivery parameters and all matters that require a higher delegated authority.

Role Specific Conditions:
Registered Nurse with the Australian Health Practitioners Regulation Agency (AHPRA)
Immunisation screening
Valid Working with Children Check
Relevant post-graduate qualifications in a specialized field of nursing practice
A minimum of 12 months full time work experience in a specialized field of nursing practice aligned with post-graduate qualifications. OR
Four years post-registration experience, including three years’ experience in the relevant specialist field.
Actively contributes to the development of clinical practice in the ward/unit/service: Contributes to research projects in the nursing specialty; or Contributes to the development and implementation of new clinical practices; or Represents the ward/unit/service at clinical meetings; or Develops a training package of clinical specialty material; or Development or delivery of 4 in-services per year
Acts as a resource and mentor to others in relation to the clinical practice: Acts as a mentor to other nurses, including newly graduated transition nurses; or Provides clinical advice to less experienced nurses and other health professionals; or Contributes to the clinical education of other health professionals by providing at least one in-service session per year
Actively contributes to their own professional development: Undertakes post graduate education qualification; or Participates in continuing education activities such as conferences and in-service education or active membership; or Relevant specialist interest groups or undertakes a structured reading program agreed with the NUM
