Job Description : Job-Specific Responsibilities
The Center for Computational Biomedicine (CCB) is a new center at the Harvard Medical School (HMS). Our mission is to provide cutting-edge computational capabilities, data analysis, and data integration technologies to support medical and biological research. We are a multi-disciplinary team of computational and quantitative scientists who work collaboratively both within the center and with members of the HMS community.

We seek a highly motivated, collaborative individual with excellent communication skills to join our team as a Software/Data Engineer. In this role, you will help to design and implement sophisticated solutions that leverage ontologies to search, integrate, and facilitate the analysis of large, complex, heterogeneous datasets. The datasets include healthcare insurance claims, electronic health records, genomics, environmental exposure, among others. The integration of these data will support large-scale epidemiological research in precision medicine, healthcare, and basic science, all with the goal of improving patient outcomes

Participate fully in software development life cycle
Implement and support technical solutions to deliver business requirements
Identify and evaluate opportunities to improve services
Contribute ideas to coding best practices and new technologies
Draw on relationship and technical skills to act as technical liaison to internal and external clients
Abide by and follow the Harvard University IT technical standards, policies and Code of Conduct
Basic Qualifications
Minimum of two years’ post-secondary education or relevant work experience
Additional Qualifications and Skills
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related field preferred
Software engineering experience or training in Python or Java.
Experience or training with software versioning and testing.
Ability to architect and design software solutions with supervision.
Ability to implement and test software independently.
Additional Information
This is a 12-month term appointment with the possibility of renewal contingent on funding.

This Staff role may start as a remote position due to the COVID-19 pandemic and while restrictions are still in place. The current remote nature of this role is considered temporary and may change as the University continues to evaluate options. While we continue to monitor the evolving COVID-19 guidelines, local on-campus work may be expected for some roles. Harvard Medical School does support flexible schedules, subject to individual departments’ business needs. All remote work must be performed within a state in which Harvard is registered to do business (CA (exempt roles only), CT, MA, MD, ME, NH, NY, RI, and VT).
