We are interested in individuals who have strong software engineering fundamentals (e.g. OO design, test-driven development, unit testing, code reuse, code reviews) as well as hands-on experience with full stack development across the entire software lifecycle (design, build, test, deploy, support).This engineer will be on our Data Services team working on our content moderation system, which enables moderation of all consumer generated content across the entire Bazaarvoice network. This mission critical system provides an interface for human moderators to categorize, match, and filter all forms of multi- and social media content. This drives our ability to provide higher quality, authentic content and information to facilitate better informed purchasing decisions by consumers. This involves designing and implementing distributed, fault-tolerant systems and the infrastructure so we can scale to support the high throughput and quick response times necessary to moderate large volumes of consumer generated content each month. This is a full-stack system, requiring development from the user interface through the data layer, including integrations across disparate systems within the Bazaarvoice network.

Predominately focused on developing new services and features, providing lots of opportunities to drive design and implementation
Engineers at Bazaarvoice participate in software initiatives from conception to delivery to Maintenance & Support, while driving engineering best practices and helping mentor talent
Expectations Include:
30 days – Become familiar with teams, technologies, process and culture
Plus contribute some code to production
90 days – Lead one or more customer-impacting features from design to delivery
Become the go-to person for a software component
6 months – Develop an all-round understanding of the BV data stack
Actively engage with stakeholders and other senior engineers to define longer-term plans
Drive on-going process improvements as appropriate
Mentor more junior engineers
Necessary skills and experience:
Strong software development knowledge in different programming/scripting languages such as Java, C++, Python, etc.
Understanding and experience building high-performance, scalable algorithms
Understanding of Agile or Kanban/Lean software development methodologies
Experience using Linux as a software development platform, as well as some Linux systems administration knowledge
Experience with version control systems (Subversion, Git)
Experience using modern build tools such as Maven, Jenkins, GitHub, etc. is a plus
Experience with distributed technologies such as Cassandra, Elastic Search and/or SOLR is a strong plus
Experience with Amazon Web Services a strong plus
