We need someone who can collaborate globally with engineering teams & architects to design, develop, and deliver components for our Cross Cloud SaaS Platform (CCSP) and participate in VMware’s journey of SaaS transformation. The CCSP SRE Engineer position provides a great opportunity to grow your career by increasing your knowledge on infrastructure management and providing the opportunity to participate, own & manage strategic projects. You will be part of Office of the CTO where we are customer zero for VMWare products and help ensure their use cases meet both our demand as well as for our customers. We aim to make deploying and upgrading workloads on Kubernetes simple, secure, fast, and consistent.
We aim to be good open and inner source citizens working cross Business Unit with a OneVMware mentality and build a community around our products..
We nurture psychological safety within teams and empower them to drive the changes necessary to obtain successful outcomes. VDP runs a fleet of Kubernetes clusters in the public cloud for internal engineering consumption and knowledge and interest in cloud native security will enable you to be successful in this role
Success in the Role: What are the performance outcomes over the first 6-12 months you will work toward completing?
Within 30 days of employment, become competent with VDP rules, guidelines, and standard operations. You will work closely with fellow SRE Engineers, Architects , management and internal Cloud operations to provide day-to-day operations support & enhancement for the VDP portfolio.
Within 60 days of employment, Participate in trouble shoot sessions with team and help out on a rotation basis with on-call support. Participate as weekly SRE Duty Lead.
Within 90 days of employment, you will be owing VDP release management and be responsible to resolve internal technical issues through diligent research, reproduction, and troubleshooting.
Within 180 days you will be able to work on a number of SRE projects – API Gateway, backup/restore, chaos engineering, load testing, automation and release management and many more!
Within 360 days along with the above, you will be reviewing project requirements and putting together design packages which will be used from a VDP infrastructure deployment & SRE perspective.

You’ll be pulling things apart and tinkering, building new platforms, or playing in the cloud. Here, the engineering opportunities are endless. With this fast-paced, synergetic group, you’ll be working together and across the organisation to ensure we maintain our SaaS Platform running on Kubernetes ensuring we meet our our SLOs. We require strong knowledge in SRE with experience in Kubernetes as an Admin. You will ideally have contributed to opensource and keen to develop services that all of VMware SaaS engineering products and teams will consume. You must be driven, understand and can demonstrate SRE best practices with strong expertise in troubleshooting Kubernetes clusters. Have a strong understanding of Observability, Release Management, exposure to Cloud services and excellent hands-on expertise in Python and ideally Golang. This is an extremely exciting role working with a very strong team right at the heart of VMware’s SaaS transformation journey.
As part of the VMware Developer Platform (VDP) Engineering Team, you will be.
Managing a cross cloud SaaS Service platform with high uptime focussed on Kubernetes management.
Joining our SRE team and bring in SRE best practices.
Ensuring we maintain a high security posture and ensure our we stay compliant with our varying accreditations (SOC2/PCI/HIPAA/FedRAMP High/GDPR)
Strong DevOps experience with and bringing in release best practices and help shorten the release cycle.
Identifying Opportunities to improve efficiency of our CI/CD pipeline and optimize developer productivity.
Developing tools and code to automate manual steps in the pipeline and optimize existing steps.
Using tools such as GitLab, Rundeck, Terraform, Docker, SonarQube , Helm etc.
Using Python/bash for automation & achieving operation excellence.
Develop and manage Kubernetes Operators and Custom Resource Definitions
Assisting the team with operational improvements & working through backlog tasks.
Participating in on-call duties.
Defining and adhering the platform SLIs/SLOs

What is the leadership like for this role? What is the structure and culture of the team like?
SRE Engineer reports to “Nishat Afshan”, the Saas Platform Manager of the VMWare Developer Platform Team (aka “VDP”) in India, an experienced manager who joined VDP in Aug, 2021. The team consists of highly competent engineers, staff, senior staff. We focus on iterative development, both of SaaS platform components and our development practices.
You will initially be part an SRE team that has a wide range of core platform responsibilities, but the expectation is that you will help blaze a new trail for the team and organisation in the area of SRE. This position, with its focus on SLO, SLI & error budget, is anticipated to eventually be the beginnings of a new team focused on SRE culture & practices. This is a great opportunity for someone who likes challenges and has a passion for technology.
Where is this role located?
Flexible: The role is considered flexible and will be a mix of working from a local VMware office and remote depending on your preferences and the arrangements determined with your future manager. You will be expected to live within a reasonable non-daily commute of the office.
