The Role: Associate Director, Database Reliability Engineering

The Team
You will be part of a world class Database Operations Engineering team supporting various product offerings of S&P Global powered by various middle tier, database, and OS technologies and used by tens of thousands of users globally

Our team is responsible for database provisioning, support/administration, architecture, reliability, performance, High Availability, and scalability of large-scale data ingestion, processing/aggregation, and retrieval systems
The Impact
This is an extremely visible role as the database infrastructure is the backbone of S&P Global
S&P Global products rely on numerous datasets to allow our customers to find the companies, securities, and markets they are interested in, to explore the relationships between entities, and to search using public identifiers (CUSIPs, ISINs, SEDOLs, Tickers, etc.)
The database backend is in allowing our customers to value their portfolios, monitor market moving events, understand their risk, maintain their back-office systems, etc.

As a critical member of the team, you will have the opportunity to collaborate with a global team of database administrators and engineers with varying ranges of experience from Jr. DBAs that you can mentor to team members who are experts in their domain and willing to share their knowledge

Responsibilities
As a Techno Manager, you are responsible for day-to-day monitoring and performance management of the Database Administrators and the Database Systems running critical S&P Global Market Intelligence products by aligning with our Company’s Pay for Performance policy and efficient implementation of Global HR Practices including hiring and Performance Management.

Your Responsibilities Will Include
Manage and Lead a team of Skilled Database Administrators.
Continue to have hands-on Expertise and solve critical Production issues.
Manage Design and Implementation of Projects like Migrations from On-Prem to AWS.
Identify Avenues of growth opportunities, technical Debts and Prioritization. Aligned with SAFE and Scrum Practices.
Mentor Colleagues and be open Minded to adopt new Database and Cloud. Technologies. Expect to Bring Technical expertise and Leadership Skills.
Job comes with responsibilities that may need to extend hours or occasionally be available during weekends.
Support, administer, manage, and tune multi-terabyte database systems
Ensure any data replication latency is investigated and resolved quickly
Automate tasks to improve efficiency and quality of the team and infrastructure
Manage periodic database/software releases for QA, Pre-Production, Production, and DR as part of the overall SDLC
Deploy and maintain database instances including configuration enhancements, patches/hotfixes, database engine upgrades, hardware/storage migrations, etc…
Solve, non-routine problems and use cost/benefit analysis to determine the best solution
Troubleshoot database engine and query performance issues in real-time
Work with IT Server Management and other groups and make sure that all issues, incidents, and problems are resolved in a timely manner
Participate in and coordinate projects with other teams within Operations as well as other peer groups like Development and QA teams
Leverage existing methods and procedures on new or special assignments
Periodically review current processes and suggest improvements as new tools/methods are discovered
Contribute to best-in-class product support resources including run books, tools, monitoring processes, and knowledge bases
Support cloud, virtual, and bare-metal database infrastructure

What We’re Looking For
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems or Engineering
12+ years of hands-on database administration, support, and performance tuning experience
Leadership Skills, Team Management Experience
Aware of SAFE and Agile best practices.
Must have extensive experience in MS SQL Server
Some familiarity/experience with AWS and PostgreSQL
Proficient in database support, administration, performance tuning, and database monitoring
Experience with Transactional Replication and Log Shipping
Basic knowledge PowerShell (or other scripting/program language)
Excellent communication skills, with strong verbal and writing proficiencies

Preferred Qualifications
Experience in a start-up, Agile, or Dev Ops environment
AWS Certified Solutions Architect
Experience with additional database technologies like Oracle, NoSQL, MySQL, SOLR, Vertica, Hadoop is an added advantage.
Familiarity with SQL Server Analysis Services
Understanding of Database Mirroring, Availability Groups, and Windows Clustering
Ability to troubleshoot problems involving Client Libraries (like ADO.NET), Operating Systems, Network and Storage
Experience with Data Lakes, or Data Bricks is an added advantage.
