Position Title: Engineering Manager
Job Location: Bangalore
Job Purpose:
Supervision and technical direction to hourly, salaried, and management personnel engaged in design, development or research activities related to Advanced Power Products (APP) – component, product, or process which accomplish product maintenance and new product introduction objectives.
Job duties:
This Engineering Manager is critical role for APP Global footprint strategy. This role will be a part of APP India leadership team and work closely with APP Leaders in NA, UK to continue delivering APP Programs.
Reporting to this position are various levels of engineers, technologists, and support personnel in one geographic location. The incumbent needs to provide technical and project leadership, coach and facilitate the development of the work group to develop collaborative relationships among themselves, with customers, suppliers, other cross functional groups, and internal customers to ensure goals are achieved. Program/project management skills and organizational skills are critical.
Project scope will vary from a moderate technical focus on a component, product, or sub-product, and will require incumbent to broaden business understanding. Therefore, the ability to draw upon foundational product development skills such as conceptual design, development of product and/or process, data analysis & extraction, failure resolution & prevention, and requirements management is required; as well as, ever increasing skill in technical project management, development of product, internal and external requirements management, and cost-value management. The ability to draw upon knowledge of more than one engineering function, technology, component, system, product, or process is required. This role requires that the incumbent increases understanding of product technology and process and the customers’ business and needs.
To make decisions, this position will work with immediate work group or project team, division/business unit, suppliers, internal and external customers, and the market, typically impacting a single product, process, or factory. Decisions may also affect warrantees, sales, customer perception, and the product through technology and core competency. Primary accountability for operating expense budget.
Position requires excellent human relations, interpersonal, and communications skills. Ability to draw upon the role-based competencies of Managing Vision & Purpose, Motivating Others, Developing Others, and Listening. Ever increasing skills in the Caterpillar Leadership competencies.
Background/Experience:
· Bachelor’s/Master’s degree in Mechanical/Electrical Engineering or equivalent and 10+ years Product Development experience (Design/Development/Simulation/Controls).
· Thorough technical and project leadership experience in Power Systems / Electrification Projects- Design/Simulation/Controls experience is required.
· Prior experience in managing change, setting a vision, and leading project teams is preferred.
