ATHENA places a high value on customer service, accountability and getting the job done.Position Summary: This position plans and directs all aspects of financial and accounting activities at the facility by performing the following duties, personally or through subordinate supervisors.MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: Assists in the development and implementation of facility goals and priorities relating to financial management, budget, and/or accounting while remaining in compliance with State and Federal law, and company policies and proceduresAssists in monitoring SAVOR compliance with all financial provisions of the management contractReports and maintains Sales Tax CompliancePrepares and performs account reconciliationsPrepares, reviews and approves journal entriesReviews and maintains balance sheet detail records; performs account analysisReviews and maintains prepaid accountsReviews, monitors and reconciles cash on a daily basisReviews and reconciles A/R and A/P control accounts to detail agingPrepares and reviews financial statements with management personnelReviews purchasing of operational and capital assets and manages the Reserve FundReviews the recordkeeping of third-party sub-contractorsReviews, prepares and analyzes information for financial statements and reportsSupervises the Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Sales processesVerifies and checks the accuracy of general ledger codingAssists with the development and implementation of all aspects of financial reporting.Prepares monthly and annual financial statements and other financial reports. Assists in the preparation of the Annual Budget, Annual Forecast and Annual ReportAnalyzes financial performance and cost analyses for all departments; recommends appropriate actions/changes in order to meet business goalsCoordinates preparation of Client or external audit materials and financial reporting; implements recommendations of Client as requested. Works with auditors in verifying financial information and proceduresDirects the maintenance of accounting and other related procedures and controlsEstablishes system controls for new financial systems and develops procedures to improve existing systemsPerforms other accounting functions and coordinates tasks with other department personnelPerforms other duties as assignedSUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIESDirectly supervises employees in the Finance Department. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with SMG’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding; disciplining employees in conjunction with Human Resources; addressing complaints and resolving problems.QUALIFICATIONS: S. in Accounting or Finance from a four-year college or university5 to 7 years’ experience in public accounting and/or financial management at a supervisory level or as department head requiredThorough knowledge of financial and cost accountingExcellent math skills and attention to detailsEffective communication, interpersonal and organizational skills requiredAbility to interact with all levels of staff including management and clientsDetail orientedAbility to function independently with minimal supervisionThe statements in this Job Description are intended to describe the general nature and minimum level of work required.
