Delivery, Device Research and Connected Solutions (DDCS) is responsible for the development and scale-up of new drug delivery devices for late stage clinical trials and commercial distribution. To maximize the opportunities associated with connected health, DDCS has created a Digital Devices team with internal and external capabilities in electronics, embedded software development, wireless connectivity, and mobile app software development. This team will also manage the development of new innovative drug delivery and management systems and be responsible for understanding and influencing emerging standards and regulations.
We are seeking a highly motivated Embedded Software Test Engineer for Lilly’s Delivery and Device Development organization. The Embedded Software Test Engineer is responsible for conducting software engineering activities for drug delivery systems during the development phase. Specifically, this role is responsible for conducting software engineering test activities in areas of product development and prototyping, collaborating on requirements and specifications, development to ensure testability, supporting risk management, and software testing activities. A strong knowledge of complex SW systems as well as experience developing safety critical electro-mechanical systems is required for this role. Candidates must be proficient at developing test protocols for early phase software systems as well as developing and designing test strategies for finished products. The candidate must possess a history of strong practical engineering knowledge and a proven track record for timely and cost effective project delivery. Candidates will support the development of software documentation within a regulatory environment for Class I, II and III medical devices.
Position Responsiblities:
Develop software protocols, verification methods and traceability to test requirements and embedded software designs
Investigates embedded software issues and work with design team on solutions
Excecute unit, integration and requirements testing, resolve problems and document results
Participate in code and requirement reviews to support refining requirements and specifications
Supportproduct development activities for safety critical drug delivery devices this may include user needs, use cases, requirements, designs, SW implementation, risk management and test development.
Conduct and document development activities in compliance with the Eli Lilly development processes.
Support the development of software development procedures that are in compliance with the Eli Lilly development processes and external regulating bodies.
Support the establishment of electrical and software development tools and labs to enable product development activities.
Supervise and mentor less experienced engineers
Lead and communicate project status, risks and identify gaps with recommended solutions
Be capable of operating independently with minimum supervision
Effective technical writing skills as well as good verbal communication/presentation skills
Minimum Requirements:
BS Science or Engineering (Biomedical, Electrical or Software Engineering preferred)
10+ years medical device design experience
Additional Skills /Preferences:
MS, PhD, P.E., and/or MBA preferred
Previous medical device / pharmaceutical design / development experience.
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work productively in an interdisciplinary environment.
Familiarity with connected device testing and development with BLE firmware and mobile app development.
Experience using VectorCAST or similar unit and integration test software
Experience developing software and test software across multiple desktop and mobile platforms such as Windows, Mac, Linux, Android, and iOS as well as develop firmware for embedded processor families such as TI, Atmel and ARM based embedded systems.
Demonstrated record of developing intellectual property
Experience in contributing to the development of new quality management systems for medical devices and/or connected medical devices
Ability to identify problems and drive issue resolution/improvements
Experience with appropriate regulations (IEC62304, ISO 60601, CRF 820.30, ISO13485, ISO 14971, etc)
