Job Description : The Role: We are looking for INVENTORY CONTROL SPECIALIST this individual maintains records, orders, purchases, receives, stores, issues, controls and maintains an adequate inventory of materials, supplies, parts and equipment; and to receive, account for, store, and dispose of materials.

4-day, 36-hour workweek, Monday-Thursday, 8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. (May vary by position specific needs).

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Originates records of incoming shipment; verifies receipts for accuracy.
Prepares/completes purchase orders following the city’s purchasing policy
Visually verifies the receipt of items received.
Records all inventory items by quantity, receiving document and storage location on computer; maintains computerized records of parts, equipment, merchandise and costs; computes unit prices; marks items with correct information, and storage location.
Determines availability of parts, supplies, and estimates delivery time; receives and fills requisitions for specialized orders.
Requests parts and supplies as needed.
Maintains an adequate inventory of commonly used materials, parts and supplies.
Uses computer to input and retrieve data and verify inventory with computer reports.
Determines origin and disposition of items; maintain records of merchandise usability.
Inspects goods for quantity, damage and conformity to specification; reports discrepancies; and returns items if needed.
Determines shelf life of items.
Controls the release of designated items to staff and requires employees to sign for such items; tracks designated items using asset management and inventory computer system.
Maintains warehouse in an orderly fashion by rotating stock, removing obsolete items. Maintains storage area in a clean condition; ensures the security of storage area.
Analyzes orders to be filled, selects items from shelves, replenish stock. Determines appropriate method for packing and delivery.
Delivers items to appropriate areas; issues parts and maintenance supplies; delivers items to work sites as needed.
Purchases from vendors outside the annual contract and against the open purchase orders or using field purchase orders.
Assembles materials and equipment received in unassembled form.
Codes invoices to appropriate fund for payment.
Participates in an annual or periodic physical inventory of the stock on hand; assists in reconciling computerized records with information obtained from the physical inventory.
Maintains and updates asset management system. Determines storage locations.
Performs routine housekeeping.
Assists in preparing reports.
Operates a variety of office equipment such as hand held computer, PDA, Bar Code Scanner, photocopier, computers, and peripheral equipment.
Performs related duties and responsibilities as required
MATERIAL AND EQUIPMENT USED: General Office Equipment Personal Computer/laptop Hand Held Computer Radio Vehicle PDA ForkLift Bar Code Scanner

Qualifications and Attributes: Education and Experience:
High school diploma or GED; and,
Three years of increasingly responsible experience working as office support including two years of experience as a stock clerk, storekeeper, or warehouse worker.
Licenses and Certifications:
Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license and maintain satisfactory motor vehicle record and ability to obtain appropriate Nevada state driver’s license within required time frame.
Must possess and maintain an appropriate forklift certificate within 6 months of the date of appointment. (Utilities Department Only)
Knowledge:
Basic principles of perpetual inventory systems.
Basic inventory control, purchasing and warehouse terminology. Basic knowledge and ability to use a computerized inventory system.
Property accountability methods of storage, receiving, issuing and shipping.
Safe operation of hand and power tools, pallet jacks and furniture moving equipment.
Specialized parts for repairs and maintenance of city equipment.
Skill:
Inventory control and warehousing
Using a computer and software related to the work.
Completing records.
Understanding and using asset management system.
Physical and Mental Abilities:
Read, understand and use equipment, merchandise and specialized parts catalogues.
Read and understand manufacturers’ assembly instructions.
Calculate basic arithmetic.
Learn to use computer terminals, hand held computers, PDA, and bar code scanner for inventory control.
Operate pallet jack, motorized forklift and power tools. (Forklift – Utilities Department Only)
Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
While performing the essential functions of this job the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel, reach with hands or arms, bend at the waist, and is occasionally required to lift 50 pounds and/or move more than 100 pounds.
Working Conditions:
While performing the essential functions of this job the employee is regularly exposed to hot and cold weather conditions, and occasionally works near moving mechanical parts, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, or vibration.
Working conditions are typically moderately quiet, but may be loud while working near power tools, equipment, or machinery.
Regular and timely attendance is required.
