Job Description : About the Position

The Clark County Department of Aviation is seeking qualified candidates to apply for the Maintenance Worker I/II position. This position performs unskilled and semi-skilled work in the care and maintenance of facilities, buildings, roads, water and wastewater and related County and local agency areas surrounding such facilities. This examination will establish an Open Competitive list to fill current and/or future vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months or be extended as needed by the office of Airport Experience and Employee Services. Maintenance Worker I: $17.35/Hr. – $26-85/Hr Maintenance Worker II: $18.73/Hr. – $29.01/Hr The Maintenance Worker I is a training underfill position, upon successful completion of the training program the successful candidate will be non-competitively promoted to Maintenance Worker II. The salary range at the II level is $18.73 – $29.01. THIS RECRUITMENT IS LIMITED TO THE FIRST 250 APPLICATIONS RECEIVED AND WILL CLOSE WITHOUT NOTICE ONCE THAT NUMBER IS REACHED. The Department of Aviation reserves the right to call only the most qualified applicants to the selection process.

Requirements

Equivalent to graduation from high school AND one (1) year of full-time general maintenance training or experience which included performing sustained physical labor. Additionally, at the Maintenance Worker II level, one (1) year of full-time general maintenance experience which included performing sustained physical labor specifically in the field to which assigned. Qualifying education and experience must be clearly documented in the “Education” and “Work Experience” sections of the application. Licensing and Certification: Must possess a valid Nevada Class C driver’s license at time of hire. Specified positions at the Airport may require airport certification.
Working Conditions: Work extended shifts or be called back in emergency situations. Work with exposure to potentially hazardous paints, chemicals, solvents, sealant and fuels. Work with exposure to heavy traffic.
Medical Examination: Employment is contingent upon the results of a physical examination performed by our examining physician.
Pre-Employment Drug Testing: Employment is contingent upon the results of a pre-employment drug examination.
Residency Requirement: Permanent employees must maintain a principal place of residency within the boundaries of Clark County and provide proof of compliance with Nevada motor vehicle registration and drivers’ license laws within 90 days of employment.
Background Check: Employment with the Department of Aviation is contingent upon completion of an education/experience background investigation, a fingerprint-based criminal history record check processed by the FBI, and upon the ability to be granted a security badge as mandated by the Transportation Security Administration. Note: all prospective hires must present two original government issued ID’s upon acceptance of job offer. Examples of acceptable ID’s include a Passport, Driver’s License or DMV issued ID, birth certificate, Social Security card, Voter Registration card, school issued ID with picture, etc.
Customs and Border Protection Security Seal Program: Employment with the Department of Aviation in this job title is contingent upon a five year employment and residency history record check and the ability to present original identity based documentation in order to meet the requirements for a Security Seal.

Physical Demands

Strength and mobility to work in a typical field or shop maintenance setting, including operating hand and power tools; stamina to perform sustained physical labor, including standing, walking, climbing and working in confined or awkward spaces; strength to lift and maneuver materials and equipment weighing up to 100 pounds with proper equipment; vision to read printed materials; and hearing and speech to communicate in person or over a radio or telephone. Accommodation may be made for some of these physical demands for otherwise qualified individuals who require and request such accommodation.

Examples of Duties

Assists skilled crew and learns to perform basic tasks in such craft areas as carpentry, painting, plumbing, electrical, electronic and mechanical repair and construction. Operates and adjusts a variety of hand and power tools and equipment common to the maintenance area to which assigned; may operate light equipment and drive trucks as assigned. Observes safe work methods and uses safety equipment; secures work sites from traffic hazards as necessary; attends safety meetings. Repairs to commercial roof systems. Contributes to the efficiency and effectiveness of the unit’s service to its customers by offering suggestions and directing or participating as an active member of a work team. Responds to questions and complaints from the public; carries out assignments in a non-disruptive manner in areas receiving heavy public use. Maintains and repairs roadways and other paved areas such as parking lots and runways by cleaning surfaces, laying and raking asphalt and striping and marking pavement. Clears weeds, brush, trash and other debris from paved areas; may operate power equipment to accomplish such cleaning. Installs and repairs guard rails, signs, fences, security barriers; may perform basic welding and braising. Loads and unloads trucks, fuels equipment and vehicles (automobiles, trucks, aircraft), picks up and delivers materials and equipment, cleans and maintains tools and equipment, maintains work areas in a clean and orderly condition. Maintains basic records of work performed. High-Pressure Surface Cleaning. Assists in constructing forms, pouring and finishing concrete, and in constructing and repairing sidewalks, ramps, curbs, gutters and drainage structures. Constructs drainage structures; may assist in laying underground piping and sewer systems; installs shoring; serves as the flagger on a crew. May perform ground maintenance work for specified local agency facilities; may perform work involving the installation and replacement of water services. Instructs and directs the work of others on a project or day-to-day basis. Responds to emergency situations in off hours as required.

Group Insurance: Health and dental insurance is available at a minimal expense to eligible employees, spouses and dependents. The County pays the monthly life insurance premium for eligible employees. Service Connected Disability Insurance: Eligible employees are covered by a Workman’s Compensation Program in accordance with the provisions of the Nevada Industrial Insurance Act (NRS Chapter 616) and the Nevada Occupational Diseases Act (NRS 617). Long-Term Disability Insurance: The County pays a monthly premium toward a long-term disability plan for eligible employees. Vacation: Vacation leave accrual is based on length of County employment. Initial accrual is at the rate of 3.08 vacation hours for each biweekly pay period. Sick Leave: Eligible employees accrue 3.7 hours of sick leave for each biweekly pay period. Employees completing 10 years of service accrue an additional .92 hours of sick leave per biweekly pay period. Miscellaneous Leaves: Court leave, military leave, parental leave, leave without pay, blood donor leave, education leave, and County promotional/transfer application examination leave are available (upon approval) for eligible permanent employees. Retirement: Full-time employees become a member of the Nevada State Public Employees Retirement System. Credit Union: Clark County employees and their families are eligible to join the Clark County Credit Union. Tuition Reimbursement: Subject to availability of funds, eligible employees may be awarded tuition reimbursement upon successful completion of pre-approved, job related courses.
