Job Description : Position Summary

Position Summary:
Responsible for coordinating the hospital’s public relations and social media strategies, while developing brand awareness and promoting key service lines. Develops and maintains strong relationships with local and national media outlets and supports the hospital in the development of external and internal communications, including employee newsletters, website content and advertising campaigns.

Job Requirement

Education/Experience: Equivalent to a Bachelor’s Degree in communication, marketing, journalism or related field and two (2) years of professional level experience in journalism or public/media relations, with a strong focus on writing and editing content. Licensing/Certification Requirements: None.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Physical Requirements

Knowledge of: Writing and editing professional content; media outreach principles and practices; Associated Press Style; local media organizations; social media platforms and how they can be deployed in different scenarios; marketing principles and practices; hardware and software used in the various forms of public relations and social media; department and hospital safety practice and procedures; federal patient privacy law; patient rights; age specific patient care practices; infection control policies and practices; handling, storage, use and disposal of hazardous materials; department and hospital emergency response policies and procedures. Skill in: Developing engaging written content to support and promote the hospital’s brand; developing and maintaining relationships with media contacts; coordinating media interviews, events and tours; reviewing and editing communication materials to ensure accuracy; developing and implementing social media strategies and tactics; developing engaging social media content to reach a large audience of community members; marketing functions; online reputation management; the Internet and the latest social media developments, online behaviors and trends; visualizing abstract ideas and concepts; identifying opportunities for public relations and social media content; project management; using initiative and independent judgment within established guidelines; organizing own work, setting priorities and meeting critical deadlines; maintaining accurate records of work performed; preparing clear and concise marketing materials, reports, correspondence and other written materials; using computers and related software applications; communicating with a wide variety of people from diverse socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with all personnel contacted in the course of duties; efficient, effective and safe use of equipment. Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: Mobility to work in a typical office setting and use standard equipment, mobility to drive a motor vehicle to attend meetings and off-site events; stamina to remain seated and maintain concentration for extended periods of time, vision to read printed materials and VDT screens, and hearing and speech to communicate effectively in-person and over the telephone. Strength and agility to exert up to 20 pounds of force occasionally and/or an eligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Work is subject to shift and weekend assignments. Attends meetings and events outside of normal working hours.
