Position summary

We’re looking for a talented Software Engineering Manager to join our team! You will have opportunities to work closely with customers to solve real technology challenges. We are rapidly expanding and you will be responsible for delivering new solutions and services while constantly improving our approach to architecture, scale, availability and fault-tolerance. Engineering is a craft, and at Firstup we believe the internals of our technology should be as elegant as user experience. We work in cross-functional autonomous product teams, so you’ll interact with Product Managers, Designers, QA, and other engineers on a daily basis. You will partner with others across the company in shared codebases, and contribute directly to other services when needed. Responsibilities

Mentor, manage, and grow a team of distributed Engineers by instilling and advocating best practices.
Foster an environment of involvement and open communication. Engineering is a team sport at Firstup.
Drive the creation of solutions for our most challenging technical problems as they relate to scaling and automation.
Communicate your passion for building quality software and motivate others to do the best work of their lives.
Develop career pathing and manage performance of your team members.
Contribute to engineering-wide initiatives as part of the engineering management team.
Drive Agile and QA best practices.

You Have

Experience managing teams of 3+ Engineers for a small-medium size SaaS company (i.e. company/industry like ours).
Management experience must be for a core team such as Infrastructure or Platform (i.e. teams that are handling heavy lift and breadth of highly complex challenges).
Experience managing in a greenfield space, i.e. building new products from scratch. In resume or in screening questions need to see successful track record/examples of this.
This is a highly Technical person with a Software Engineering background. The focus of the experience is not necessarily the # of years as a manager but the depth & complexity of the challenges they have worked on.
This candidate is a comfortable in ambiguous environments, a problem solver, thrives on new challenges, great communicator and is a creative & analytical thinker.
(Preferred) Previous experience managing a team of 15+ Engineers; ideally in a startup-like environment developing SaaS applications/platforms.
Proven success leading a team through complex challenges that are large in scope.
Strong knowledge in OOD, Domain-driven design, and microservices architecture.
Excellent communication skills and understanding of the realities of developing in a startup environment (i.e.. you know the difference between small problems and big ones).
Familiarity with our technology stack or similar (Ruby on Rails, JavaScript/TypeScript, React, Node, and more!)
Previous experience as a Software Engineer.

You Might Have

Experience with Kubernetes, Docker, Helm.
Experience with AWS.
Experience with ML, AI.
Experience working for a startup and/or SaaS organization.
Open-source contributions and history of side-projects.
