Job Description : Technology Operations is an instrumental team in the GTS Client Delivery department. It is responsible for the operations of mission critical Trading, Clearing and Corporate systems. The team is comprised of the following functions and processes: IT Service Desk, Production Support, Incident and Change Management, Business Continuity Planning and Disaster Recovery. In addition, they work directly with GTS Client Delivery Heads to ensure client SLAs are properly managed under the Incident and Change Management framework. This team has a responsibility to provide leadership in support of the recovery of TMX applications and services on demand.

The Computer Operator is responsible for the delivery of quality online and batch services to CDS business units and customers.

Ensure that all online systems are operational and delivering guaranteed response times during critical hours.

Ensures that all reporting and batch commitments are met, thereby ensuring that committed service levels are met.

Responsible for coordinating the recovery efforts in case of failure and acting as a focal point to ensure that escalation and status reporting remains effective during a crisis.

Responsible for I.T. Service Desk during the business day and after business hours (including weekends and statutory holidays). Act as the first line incident reporting and resolution for PC, Network, Online, Production and Client Server. If unable to resolve the incident they will escalate and track the incident ensuring that incidents are properly resolved.

How does a Computer IT Operator contribute at TMX?

Monitor systems, network, applications and websites availability

Responsible for the backup and restore processes, ensure that all critical data are backed up and appropriate tapes are sent off-site for storage

Participate in the Implementation of changes to the infrastructure as required and ensure all changes to the infrastructure are documented and performed according to specification

Ensure that service deliverables are met and targets not met are documented and escalated accordingly

Ensure that support groups receive accurate and detailed information upon escalation.

Monitor performance of all production and development systems

Ensure that the system IPL’S are completed successfully and all system tasks are available according to CDS’ standards

Ensure that operational checklists are completed on a daily/weekly/monthly basis

Prepare the Weekend Data Centre Schedule and distribute to I.T.

Respond to all system messages and alerts, taking action to resolve issues or escalate as required

First point of contact for reporting/resolving incidents in the areas of; Batch, PC, Online, Mainframe and UNIX incidents

Escalate and track incidents ensuring all incidents are assigned and acted upon

Ensure people who report incidents receive adequate feedback from CDS

Respond to customer requests for service; troubleshoot problems e.g. printer resets, user id resets, file transmission issues, space failures to production jobs and help develop solutions

Collaborate with required vendors and TMX personnel

Provide necessary guidance, support and training to new and junior staff

Represents CDS to internal and external clients as a customer oriented company

Attend daily/weekly IT Incident and Change meetings

Respond to VMS Bell Alerts by opening an incident ticket, and coordinate the investigation of the alerts with Bell to ensure minimum disruption to Service.

Participate in all Implementation of Hardware changes at our MCC facility.

Regular participants in the Quarterly DRP exercise for CDS.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Ensure 7X24x365 operation

Working knowledge of mainframe; MVS, Z Series, OS/390, JES2, TSO/ISPF, JCL, TMONMVS, NETVIEW, ZEKE Scheduler, Control-M, RMS/SAR, CICS, DB2, RMM, FTP, SFTP Connect Direct, AOC/SAz, ACT/VTAM, ACR, ,Lotus Notes and Storage TEK 4490/SILO

Sound knowledge of batch/online processing schedules, priorities, deadlines and deliverables

Sound knowledge of LAN, UNIX/AIX and Windows platforms

Operational knowledge of Windows XP

Excellent knowledge of PC software and hardware

Functional knowledge of communications equipment such as modems, patch panels, routers, hubs, switching units

REQUIREMENTS

Community College education or equivalent

3 to 5 years of experience working in a multiple computer system environment (Mainframe and UNIX/AIX platforms)

Demonstrated documentation skills

Demonstrated problem determination, analysis and resolution skills

Demonstrated ability to document incident tickets in a timely manner

Excellent verbal communication skills

Excellent customer service skills

Well-developed interpersonal skills

Proactive in developing new skills to improve job performance

Grasps new material quickly and easily, applies new information, concepts and procedures in a constructive manner

Make recommendations for processing improvements

Able to communicate and connect with all levels of staff and management including executives
