The Coordinator of Student Culture, under the direction of the Assistant Principal for Student Services and as a part of the administrative team, is responsible for facilitating the development of a positive culture within the school focused on the development of the whole child, including the development of mentoring skills, social-emotional skills, and a sense of belonging. This position requires an organized and consistent educator with a concrete vision of excellence, adult leadership experience, the ability to build outstanding relationships with stakeholders, and a talent for inspiring children to high expectations. This position is an opportunity to play a significant role in leading an institution focused on academic achievement, character, and community.
Moreover, the Coordinator of Student Culture is a person of faith who strives to achieve the goals of Catholic education and primarily assumes responsibility for the leadership and management of Notre Dame Preparatory High School’s House system. The Coordinator will assume responsibility for providing leadership development in the creation of a sense of belonging in the school focusing on the areas of mentorship, faith formation, social and emotional learning. Notre Dame’s House system aims to develop an inclusive school culture that encourages spiritual, social, and emotional growth through Christ-centered relationships and activities grounded in the truth that with Christ, no one is left behind.
With more than 75 courses, a network of student services, over 50 clubs and activities and 25 interscholastic sports, parents can expect Notre Dame Preparatory to offer many outstanding opportunities to their children.
To help sort through all these opportunities and to serve as guiding partners with our parents in the education and formation of their children, beneath these curricular and extracurricular dynamics exists an important safety net, the House System, which is a conscious effort to create and maintain a culture that:

emphasizes a sense of family, teamwork, and community,
facilitates the development of peer relationships across grade levels,
develops mentoring and relationship-building skills.
reduces anonymity, and
creates a home away from home.

Based on Pope Francis’ guidance on accompaniment as an evangelizing methodology, the primary purpose of the House system is to help all our students and staff to develop a sense of belonging and to form appropriate spiritual, service, mentoring, and relationship-building skills.
Developed in 2018, the Notre Dame Preparatory House System is recognized nationally for its excellence. It is based on the belief that it is the responsibility of the classroom teachers and older students who see students daily to mentor younger students and develop an understanding of what it means to grow into being a Saint.
EIGHT HOUSES, ONE COMMUNITY OF SAINTS
The House System is comprised of eight “houses” or groupings of approximately 125 students with an equal number of members from the Freshman, Sophomore, Junior, and Senior classes. Each house is named after a Saint. Each house is subdivided into four “Families” that are led by a faculty “House Family Adviser.” Students remain in the same house for all four years of their time at Notre Dame Preparatory. Each of the eight houses is led by a Head of House, a House Counselor, and a pair of student “House Servant Leaders.” The students in each house are assigned to that Head of House and Counselor for all four years. House Servant Leaders and House Grade Level Servant Leaders are selected from house membership for their ability to mentor and develop good, mature relationships.
The development of camaraderie, social-emotional skills, and leadership where the young look up to the old and where the old look out for and support the young is essential. A secondary feature of the House system is the competition between houses. For example, the traditional school sports day is usually an inter-house competition. Debating competitions and charity drives are also often organized along inter-house lines. Merit points for behavior and academic achievement are also totaled up for comparison between houses. The Coordinator of Student Culture will be responsible for developing a year-long program of inter-house events, in which each house “hosts” an event at which all houses compete, with points contributing to the award of the House Cup at the end of the year.
