Aqua Sierra, Inc. is a small fisheries and water quality consulting firm located in the western foothills of Denver, Colorado specializing in complex freshwater environments. We are expanding our team and looking for an entry level biologist with knowledge and background in fish husbandry and management. Effective communication, strong customer service skills, and the ability to manage time efficiently is a must. The most qualified candidate will possess a Bachelor of Science in Fisheries, or related field.
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
1.) Serve as a representative of Aqua Sierra, Inc. and keep a high level of integrity.2.) Work with a diverse group of landowners and water managers across Colorado and the Rocky Mountain West who need help with an assortment of water-related issues.
3.) Properly classify fish commonly found in the Western US; experience in aquatic plant and invertebrate identification is a plus.4.) Prepare fish stocking recommendations for waterbodies across Colorado. Organize all fish hauling events, organize delivery schedules, and coordinate with clients.5.) Conduct biological, chemical, and physical field assessments, as well as analyze data to develop proper management practices.6.) Maintain and repair fish hauling equipment, trailers, and trucks. Experience with maneuvering trailers and large trucks and/or other farm equipment is a plus.7.) Participate in grounds and building maintenance as needed.
Additional responsibilities involve marketing, applying aquatic pesticides, and processing water samples utilizing standard methods and equipment. Overnight travel and extended field days are required during the peak season. This position requires strenuous physical activity and, therefore, the candidate must be able to lift/carry a minimum of fifty pounds.
