Job Description : SUMMARY The position of Research & Development (R&D) Food Scientist will report directly to the Research & Development Manager. The R&D Food Scientist’s primary objective is to support the R&D Manager in projects assigned. The individual is responsibility to facilitate the progression of R&D through successful development and approval, plant trials, process improvements and product launches.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES· Work and coordinate with various departments to bring new products and process from ideation to production· Monitors marketplace to identify potential innovation areas, trends and competing products – attending events such as ExpoWest, IFT, CIFST, etc.· Assist with monitoring cost savings and R&D spending· Supports manufacturing by providing technical troubleshooting in situations where formula changes can resolve production issues (one time use formulas if applicable)· Development and modification of new and existing formulas/products. Identifies and documents critical trial parameters. Prepare written “Trial Request Form” assessment of plant scale test proceedings and results· Coordinates the product development process including product formulation, working with procurement on sourcing ingredients and suppliers, developing prototypes, lab testing, overseeing plant trials and gaining approvals, then setting final product specifications· Assist with compiling information/date of designated projects for preparation of SR&ED· Preparation of prototype samples for internal evaluation and customer presentation· Maintain organized and efficient workflow throughout laboratory testing· Production sensory evaluation – daily production – shelf-life studies· Work with Quality department to establish project guidelines (rework, micro-testing, shelf-life validation)· Research competitor’s products, if available (CDN or US), purchase for sensory evaluation· Other job-related duties as requiredCOMPETENCIESQuality Food Production & ManagementAnalytical Thinking, Planning and Organizing· Communication Skills· Relationship ManagementAccountability and DependabilityQUALIFICATIONS · Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry, Food Science, Microbiology or another related field· 2+ years R&D experience in the food industry an asset· Robust and up-to-date knowledge on Canadian and US food safety regulations and other related compliance programs· Must be highly organized team player with a strong focus on detail and accuracy· Ability to multi-task and prioritize to meet deadlines· Practical experience using Genesis (Nutrition Software) considered a strong asset· Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information as well as high level of accuracy with informationWORKING CONDITIONS · Manufacturing & Office Environment· Interacts with Team Members and Management· Flexible Availability as Hours May Vary· Some Travel May be RequiredCONFIDENTIALITY By joining us you agree not to retain, reproduce, disclose, publish or use any confidential information relating to the private or confidential affairs of Sol Cuisine either during your employment or after it ends, unless you are required to do so by law.Job Types: Full-time, PermanentSchedule:8 hour shiftDay shiftEducation:Bachelor’s Degree (preferred)
