Position : HR Advisor
Job Description : ROLE STATEMENT:
The HR Advisor will be a member of the Human Resources (HR) Department responsible for understanding and supporting policies and programs, as well as support and execution of generalist services. Reporting to the Director, Human Resources, the HR Advisor will also support the execution of key strategic Human Resources initiatives.
SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Provide effective communication with management regarding continuous improvement initiatives
Able to research and assist in the development of policies and procedures
Manage requirements to achieve corporate mandate of “Service First”
Provide understanding and direction to members of the organization to meet the Corporate Code of Business ethics
Supports the delivery of a retention strategy that differentiates us in the marketplace
Supplies support and basic knowledge, as well as best practice experience to initiate, execute and drive workforce initiatives that establish and deliver effective on-boarding
Applies field HR experience to support initiatives that underpin a performance based culture
Working with senior HR Advisors, proactively educates and coaches managers/supervisors on employee relations, compliance, and workplace issues
Establishes new practices, processes and policies that are compliant with legislation and aligned with the company’s core values
Examples of programs include New Hire Orientation, Workforce Planning, Development of core competency model, Training course development, Employee Handbook, Launching of 360 tool
Delivery of HR services across the organization
Providing support and guidance to managers on all people-related issues
Soliciting feedback with regard to existing programs and services, and seeking input for the development of new programs/services
Representing the HR perspective in interactions across the organization
Effectively and efficiently resolving HR issues and providing HR support
Contributing constructively to the development of HR processes and systems
Executing revisions to current policies or assisting in researching and creating new policies
Supporting training programs and meetings
Supporting a safe, collaborative, and respectful working environment and culture
Participating in special HR projects e.g., job evaluation, employee recognition, employee survey
KEY ATTRIBUTES AND COMPETENCIES:
A highly energetic, self-starter with the ability to work in a fast paced environment that is deadline driven; more importantly is centered on providing quality information
Excellent interpersonal, relationship-building, and verbal and written communication skills.
Must be able to interact effectively and work comfortably with field, branch, head office staff and senior management
Comfortable in a time-sensitive, deadline-driven, team-based environment
Ability to challenge assumptions backed by a strong business acumen and strong interpersonal skills
Excellent communication skills with a customer service orientation and an ability to work well with all levels of the organization
Ability to handle multiple projects and priorities with a high attention to detail
Able to thrive in a rapidly changing environment
Team player with the ability to conduct work with utmost confidentiality and professionalism
Works and inspires others to work at high performance levels
Ability to generate reports with a high attention to detail
Compensation, group benefits, and retirement plans (basic knowledge)
Strong working knowledge of Excel, Word and PowerPoint is essential
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor degree or equivalent and a demonstrated commitment to continuous education
PHR or SPHR desired
5+ years of progressively complex HR experience required
Experience in a growing and diverse organization in an industrial environment an asset
