Position : School Principal Secretary

Job Description : School Principal Secretary – $15.30 – $17.46 per hour DOE; 12 month school year position with benefits.
At Wilson School District, we believe that education should be shaped by a sense of purpose. As the Principal Secretary, you help ensure students have access to high quality education they need to learn in a safe and healthy environment by providing direction to the overall fiscal affairs of the district. Perform secretarial/administrative duties such as answering and responding to phone inquiries, typing correspondence. Ensure effective office operation and handle confidential teacher, staff, and student information.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Greet visitors, students, parents, community members, and staff.
Cheerful/positive personality with customer service focus.
Ability to communicate with parents of limited English Language Skills (English/Spanish Bilingual skills preferred).
Type correspondence and reports for Principal and other school personnel.
Receive and screen incoming phone calls and respond as necessary; schedule appointments for Principal as required.
Act as a liaison between teachers, parents, students, and administration.
Assist in the hiring process by making contact with prospective applicants and screening applicants.
Provide office staff with technical or hands on resources needed to do their jobs effectively and efficiently
Assist with personal or professional leave requests. Verify hours for all classified staff.
Assist with the master scheduling for following school year.
Perform general office activities such as maintaining a filing system, computer spreadsheet, completing routine forms, and responding to questions.
Handle building usage requests for the school and outside groups.
Update calendars for the school year.
Prepare newsletters, bulletins, letters, and memos
Schedule appointments for administrator.
Perform other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
· High School Diploma, GED, or actively pursuing college courses.
· Previous experience in a professional or general office work
OR any equivalent combination of experience and education from which comparable knowledge, skills and abilities have been achieved.
· Ability to relate cordially with public and work well with interruptions.
PREFERRED EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
· Two (2) year degree or actively pursuing post- secondary education
· Preferred ability to read, write, and speak English and Spanish fluently (preferred).
· Computer knowledge preferred.

We are a Pre-K through 8th grade school district in Phoenix, Arizona, established as the seventh school district organized in Maricopa County in 1879 and named for Mr. W. J. Wilson, a school board member. The district name was changed in the mid-1930’s to Hawkins School. From Wilson to Hawkins to Ward to Skiff, the District was bought by Phoenix Sky Harbor International Airport and relocated to its current location in the early 1980’s and named Wilson Primary and Wilson Elementary, opening on Martin Luther King Day in 1985. The district boundaries cover an area from Roosevelt Street to the north; the Salt River to the south; 40th Street to the east; and, 16th Street to the west.
