What You’ll Do:

Volume Estimating Work – will consist of the use of Agtek Earthwork 3D due to its capability to translate into actionable survey functions through the use of Topcon survey hardware and Topcon-equipped heavy earthwork machines. The Survey Technician will build models using all estimating documents and engineers’ CAD files for estimating purposes. The intent is to then use those models in GPS hardware/machines to execute won work the way it was bid.
Executing Work – includes fielding service calls to visit jobsites and perform survey operations as needed by the onsite team(s). Onsite services include the use of GPS rovers, laser & grade rods, tape measure, laptop computers with applicable software, and the contract documents to gather data regarding site topography. The Survey Technician will perform GPS troubleshooting functions onsite and communicate the intended use of GPS equipment to project teams. At times, hardware/tools break or fail, and the Survey Technician will need to devise ways to keep the project team in continuous execution of the work with minimal down time.
Communication – the other part of executing awarded work is the analysis of gathered data and delivering this analysis to project teams in a clear, organized manner which helps Project Managers, Superintendents, and Project Engineers efficiently and effectively perform the work to the projects’ requirements. The Survey Technician may be required to perform layout and advise the project team on constructability concerns based on the Survey Technician’s in-depth understanding of the contract documents’ grading challenges not otherwise realized by the project teams.
Paperwork includes providing accurate data to those executing the work and/or estimating the work. Tracking assets and data trails to catch errors.
Organization includes knowing your role to help keep the projects operational and efficient. You are the technical support for field staff necessary to their proper execution of technology.
Communication includes three major parts: the estimating team, the field staff and the design teams. Expectations must be communicated. All parties must maintain a constant line of communication between office and field. Keep the team aware of changes.
Support includes making yourself available to the Project Manager, Superintendents and Foreman so that questions can be answered in a timely manner and not effect job production.
