Hiring Assistant Advisors for the Spring and Summer Semesters of 2022Program Dates: January 25 -July 25, 2022
Upward Bound Math/Science program is an intense academic, social, and cultural experience for high school students. The purpose of the program is to assist first generation college bound high school students to prepare for and succeed in post- secondary education. Academic Mentor’s (AM’s) will work via zoom, AND IN PERSON monitoring student behavior and interacting with students to build professional rapport. AM’s will be responsible for a variety of activities that will be explained at the pre-program staff training that include, but are not limited to:
Job Description
Provide leadership and VIRTUAL supervision for 60+ Upward Bound Scholars
Tuesday – Saturday during the Spring semester at University of Southern California and our partner high schools.
Build positive mentoring relationships supporting the intellectual and emotional development and growth of high school aged students.
Take primary responsibility for students in his/her group, by monitoring academic, personal and social progress and updating other staff as necessary.
Lead and participate in academic advisement and record keeping.
Visit our partner high schools where student caseload is located and recruit new students, as well as build rapport with existing counseling staff.
Assure that students get to class, meals and other activities in a timely manner (During Summer program)
Assist in Saturday Academy and any other program lead activity
Qualifications
Demonstrated dynamic leadership and success as an academic and/or community leader.
Must have experience working with high school students
Must be at least a sophomore standing in College
Knowledge of factors affecting student access and success in higher education, including those affecting marginalized students, students from diverse backgrounds, and students with disabilities.
MUST enjoy working with high school-aged students
Available to work Tuesday through Friday between the hours of 9:00 AM and 6:30 PM. Furthermore, Monday – Thursday from 6:30 (AM) – 3:00(PM) during the Summer Semester.
Rate: $25.00/hour
