Job Description : The Role
Tesla is looking for an experienced leader to drive all phases of development and site acquisition in the market. The Development Lead has a broad list of responsibilities, expected to do everything from site-specific negotiation to market-level policy development to performance management of their team.
The Development Lead is directly responsible for managing a team of project developers to drive site selection, business development and contract negotiation for all Tesla charging projects in the market and surrounding region. The Development Lead will be responsible for their team’s site acquisition performance, measured in the quality and quantity of new charging sites commitments, customer satisfaction, and resource efficiency.
The Development Lead will be the expert for their market, working with their Regional Manager and other Tesla teams on policy initiatives and special projects to drive market development. The responsibilities of this position may change over time. This role requires flexibility and the ability to adapt to the evolving needs of the programs, projects and the organization.
Key Responsibilities

Coordinate their team to expand market deployment of all Tesla Charging products including Supercharger as well as Destination Charging and Home Charging solutions
Localize Tesla’s programmatic goals and programs into market-specific initiatives and strategies
Oversee a team of project developers to refine and execute comprehensive site selection, draft and negotiate contracts
Directly responsible for reporting deliverables, measured by team’s ability to deploy a ton of amazing charging stations
The Market Lead is expected to develop their own sites in addition to managing their team. Work with Regional Manager and installation managers to assess, manage, and deploy cost- and time-efficient high-quality construction projects
Work with Regional Manager and other Tesla stakeholders to drive market-specific initiatives to accelerate the deployment of electric vehicles and charging infrastructure
Identify and tackle regulatory and entrenched roadblocks, working to create alignment amongst senior business and policy stakeholders and drive solutions that accelerate electric vehicle adoption

Requirements:

Experience project-managing high-paced, high-impact programs in rapidly evolving environments. Relentless focus on execution and process improvement
Ability to drive a results-oriented execution strategy while constantly improving processes to serve the business needs and enable scaling
Ability to manage small teams of highly productive, highly skilled executers strategically employing their skills to best fit the goals of the team and developing their ability to constantly take on more and more responsibility and autonomy
Ability to manage on a site-by-site, project-by-project level while having market-level vision and strategic assessment
Experience working with private property owners, real estate, public entities, utilities, or construction entities is a plus
Ability to anticipate challenges and prepare/solve for them before they impact the business
Excellent communication skills: strategic listener, conscious conversationalist, and the ability to persuade and impact people from a wide range of roles and backgrounds
Willing to travel 50-75% depending on the charging needs of the market

Specific Internal Responsibilities

Prioritize new site acquisition to correspond with market needs for all developers on the team, considering specific charging peak periods throughout the year
Ensure their own and their team’s performance on key metric of leases signed
Professional development of team members
Single point of contact for internal and external stakeholders for all relevant developments in the market. Align with internal policy and sales leaders to shape market and priorities
Support the Regional Manager in quarterly Network Planning Process by pre- and post-processing of data
