Job Description : K9s For Warriors is the nation’s largest provider of service dogs to veterans suffering from the invisible wounds of war, such as Post-Traumatic Stress. We are the fastest growing non-profit in America. Our unique, in-house program helps change the lives of American heroes by pairing them with a battle buddy, who was likely a rescue dog, and then teaching him or her to utilize that dog to mitigate the symptoms of their wounds. In order to continue the great work, we are doing, we are in need of an experienced Kennel Manager for our Phoenix, AZ location to join our amazing team.
Basic Function
Under the general direction and supervision of the San Antonio Campus Director, the Kennel Manager is responsible for the oversight and management of daily kennel operations. This position provides leadership and long-range planning to ensure K9s for Warriors is implementing the best practices and providing dogs with the highest quality and standard of care. This Manager will provide leadership and direction to the staff at the Phoenix, Az facility and be responsible for managing kennel staff, Procurement, Enrichment, Training, and facilities in collaboration with and support by relevant departments at headquarters.
Essential Functions and Duties

Manage, assign, and review the work of K9 Caretakers, Procurement Specialists, Enrichment Specialists, and Adoption Specialist
Hire, schedule, and oversee all direct reports
Be available to the staff after hours to provide direction and guidance for any issues or emergency situations
Build and maintain public and private partnerships, to include the leasing kennel
Manage kennel enrichment volunteers. Run kennel orientations, determine timing and duties of enrichment shifts, and ensure volunteer shifts are filled accordingly
Organize main and quarantine kennels to ensure new intakes are housed properly
Communicate with Procurement, Medical, and Training teams to set up new intakes
Communicate dog numbers, medical issues, process changes and kennel issues to kennel staff via daily recap
Oversee maintenance of kennels and yards to ensure all areas are functioning properly and communicate any issues with maintenance department
Evaluate canines for potential candidacy into the program, review canine behavior modification plans and techniques; release canines out of the program when not meeting criteria
Maintain and order kennel supplies
Liaise with procurement coordinator when dogs are washed from the program and determine those that are adoptable
Lead daily staff meetings regarding operations of the kennels
Ensure that weekly communication report is delivered to all staff
Manage and provide strategic guidance to staff
Ensure a culture where effective teamwork, collaboration and innovation are expected, recognized and rewarded; lead by example regarding cross organizational cooperation and clear standards of conduct

Other Duties

Perform any other duties as assigned by supervisor or management
Maintain good communication with kennel staff and management
Maintain good working relationships with all kennel and organization employees

Qualifications and Education Requirements

Previous management or supervisory experience required
High school degree or equivalent; bachelor’s degree preferred
Certification from an accredited canine training school or equivalent relevant work experience
Kennel, rescue, or shelter experience required
Ability to work independently with little to no supervision
Ability to multi-task items of importance based on demands
Skilled with various computer software programs
Valid driver’s license
