Job Description : High School Instructors for Peninsula Bridge Monthly Program

About Peninsula Bridge
For over 30 years, Peninsula Bridge has been serving motivated low-income youth from San Mateo to Mountain View with academic and social-emotional support. Peninsula Bridge transforms the lives of highly motivated, low-income students by preparing and supporting them for success in college preparatory high school programs and four year colleges through out-of-school time social emotional and academic learning programs.
The instructors will lead student workshops for 20-25 students per session using the Peninsula Bridge High School Academy Curriculum. The workshops will integrate Social Emotional Learning (SEL) Skills and Executive Functioning Skills to promote college readiness for our High School Cohort. The cohort meets 10 times in the academic year (September-May). All materials and resources will be prepared and provided by Peninsula Bridge. The instructors will be responsible for reading all communications (monthly lesson plans, newsletters, etc) and be well prepared for all sessions. The instructors will lead engaging small and whole group activities in the sessions to develop key skills related to the curricula. The instructors will report to the High School Director. In addition to direct teaching, there will be preparation meetings and debriefing sessions before and after each session.

Knowledge of and direct practice in teaching and modeling Social Emotional Learning (SEL) skills
Effective in developing confidence and motivation in young people
Effective student group management skills that incorporate a growth mindset and positive behavioral interactions with students (PBIS)
Effective in building a strong sense of community and belonging and maintaining positive rapport
Engaging, high energy, caring and strong relationship building skills.
Ability to demonstrate cultural sensitivity
Highly developed understanding of child development
Creative, adaptable, and able to manage multiple objectives at one time; the ideal candidate must be nimble and proactive and have the ability to be responsive in the face of student fatigue or disengagement
Ability to collaborate with a wide range of stakeholders including colleagues, families, volunteers, and visitors
Experience working with diverse learners
Effective organization skills, attention to detail
Excellent communication skills, verbally and in writing
Full Covid-19 vaccination required
CA teaching credential desired.
Experience with first-generation students desired.

Additional information: This is a position based on hourly pay. Compensation is:

$75/hr. for Direct Teaching Hours
$35/hr. for Administrative Tasks
