Minimum qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
8 years of experience within a technology and/or legal field.
5 years of experience in risk management and/or compliance.
Preferred qualifications:
Experience in Consulting or Advisory.
Experience working with legal counsel and project management.
Experience managing multiple stakeholders and workstreams.
Experience in operations process design, execution, and best practices.
Understanding of risk assessments, control testing, and/or risk program development.
Excellent relationship skills.
About the job
The Legal Investigations Support (LIS) team manages an operations and programs team of policy specialists who are at the forefront of international, criminal, and civil legal requests for user data. In this role, you will administer the processes and queues for these requests and manage vendors, working closely with counsel on sensitive matters. Alongside the LIS Operations teams, you will oversee strategic tooling, permissions, quality, and compliance initiatives. You will work with external teams, leadership, and counsel on a range of projects. You will also work across LIS to provide vision, set strategy and scalability plans for the team, measure and improve the timeliness and quality of the team’s service, and identify the need for new processes.
As the Legal Investigations Support Risk Manager, you will be the strategic mind building the infrastructure that makes it possible to incorporate “risk” into LIS’ decision-making processes, in our daily operations and in our long-term strategy, in a scalable way. You will have the judgment and mitigation mindset of a risk expert and act as the primary lead on risk management exercises (recurring and ad hoc audits, incident remediation, escalations) across the team. You will define the frameworks that guide the team in their daily operations and the decisions about where to utilize team resources. You will also take charge when it comes to resolving the business challenges which create the greatest compliance risk. You will create pathways through ambiguity, navigating compliance risk and operational swirl, to create clarity, transparency, and track-able data to advance the team’s overall strategy.
Additional Information
(Colorado only*) Minimum salary of $138,000 + bonus + equity + benefits.
Note: Disclosure as required by sb19-085 (8-5-20) of the minimum salary compensation for this role when being hired into our offices in Colorado.
Responsibilities
Partner closely with subject matter experts across the team to complete a Risk and Control Self-Assessment (OCI’s RCSA) of LIS operations, identifying solutions to close the gap between current and aspirational risk postures, and managing remediation plans through to completion.
Work cross-functionally and with subject matter experts to define scalable frameworks, create templates, and support the team to ensure the team can operate smoothly through a variety of dynamic legal and operational issues.
Partner with Google’s central Compliance organization to complete periodic risk assessment exercises (e.g., Luminary, Controls Testing, Issues and Events) and key stakeholders to periodically review programs to improve internal processes to mitigate risk.
Develop reporting mechanisms to improve communications and transparency with our stakeholders, present reporting and analysis to executive management, and provide mentorship to team members within LIS.
