Job Description : Medical Patient Billing Specialist

Job description
As the Patient Billing Specialist, you will be responsible for the accurate and timely submission of claims to insurance companies and getting patient treatment pre-authorizations approved.
The Patient Billing Specialist will communicate with insurance carriers to ensure timely billing and follow up on all unpaid claims. In addition, the Patient Billing Specialist will bill for unpaid balance incurred, work with the business manager to post payments, make adjustment to accounts, and handle any other discrepancies with reimbursements. This position is an integral position to support the revenue cycle management goals of the clinic. The Patient Billing Specialist reports to the Chief Operating Officer.
Minimum Requirements

Medical billing experience required.
Experience working within a healthcare environment is required. Physician practice, medical clinic, or health system experience highly desirable.
Knowledge of Medicare claim submission requirements and progress notes.
Comfortable dealing with numbers and the processing of financial information.
Meticulous attention to detail, persistence, and being proactive is a must.
Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word).
Adherence to laws and best practices regarding dealing with customers and data.
Excellent verbal and written communications skills.
Proficiency in English.
Good organizational and time management skills.
Ability to handle multiple responsibilities with minimum supervision.

Essential Responsibilities

Contact insurance carriers to get pre-authorization for patients to start treatment.
Contact insurance carriers to get authorization for continuation of treatment and for treating additional clinical conditions.
Discuss with patient what their insurance carrier has approved and what the patient copay responsibility will be.
Collect information from the physician office, such as patient notes.
Discuss financial responsibilities with patients.
Collaborate other team members.
Respond to summons requests for medical records and insurance notices of over/underpayment.
Check each insurance payment for accuracy and compliance with contracted rate.
Work with the business manager on special financial arrangements.
Monitor billing, collections, insurance payments and accounts payable.
Responsible for accurate charges, billing, and collection of patient accounts.
Performs all other duties as required.

Primary Location: Los Gatos, CA (San Jose area). Work experience in the State of California required.
Shift: Day
Workdays: Monday – Friday
Working Hours: Flexible, any range from 8:00 AM – 6:00 PM
Job Schedule: Part time or Full-time
