The Oregonian/OregonLive in Portland is looking for a Social Media Producer with a track record of growing audience, producing engaging content and experimenting with emerging platforms. Our talented, award-winning and collaborative social media team is up for anything, and we’re looking for someone with that same kind of energy and enthusiasm.
This position gives the opportunity to do it all, including talking through strategy as legacy social media platforms change and new platforms emerge. We want to be where our audience is, and you will be expected to help us be there in smart, forward-thinking ways. We are looking for someone who enjoys variety, is skilled at juggling multiple projects, thrives in a fast-paced environment and – we can’t say this enough — is game for anything.

Leverage social media to build the subscription base for OregonLive

Create content to reach audiences on platforms that support alternative story formats and to engage users on established platforms with modified versions of local content
Keep current on content to quickly react and even anticipate what will best play on certain channels
Create content to suit platform needs and reach audiences
Create content to reach maximum audience engagement for ambitious newsroom projects
Collaborate closely with our social media and visuals team to produce social cards, Reels, tweet threads, social-first videos and other content
Engage with the audience and moderate comments
Be flexible to work nights and weekends
The ideal candidate has:
2-3 years of experience and/or a college degree in Journalism or similar field

Experience responding in breaking news situations
Ability to collaborate on projects
Ability to manage multiple projects at once, from conception to publication
Ability to work independently and remotely
Understanding of metrics and how to leverage platforms to reach maximum engagement
Understanding of the type of content that plays well on social media, and how to use various tools, including wire stories, to maximize reach
Bonus, but not required:
Photography and photo-caption writing
Video production experience
Knowledge of Adobe applications Photoshop and Premiere Pro
Spanish-language fluency
