Job Description : The Institute for Social Research on the Sacramento State campus is seeking student assistants to help with the California Tobacco Retailer Survey (CTRP). The CTRP Survey is a statewide telephone survey whose goal is to obtain feedback from tobacco retailers on recent tobacco laws.
Conditions of Employment
This is a part-time, temporary, non-benefited, student/non-student position. Employment in all positions with University Enterprises, Inc. is dependent upon the mutual consent of University Enterprises, Inc. and the employee. This means that either University Enterprises, Inc. or the employee can, at any time, terminate the employment relationship at will, with or without cause.
University Enterprises Inc., (UEI) requires all newly appointed employees to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 or provide proof of either a medical or religious exemption
.
UEI does not allow employees to hold more than one UEI Job at a time, or work in more than one account per pay period. UEI employees who are considering leaving their current UEI position for a different UEI position should inform their supervisor in writing and provide at least a week’s notice.
Depending on the type of position you are applying for, a pre-employment background check consisting of one or more of the following may be conducted: employment history, professional references, criminal check, educational verification (i.e., degree, license, or official transcript) and physical exam and drug urinalysis test. Applicants will be required to pass required pre-employment checks to the satisfaction of University Enterprises Inc., (UEI) and the hiring Agency or Department.
Work Schedule
Flexible hours, Monday through Friday, between the hours of 8:00am and 5:00pm. Final work schedule to be determined by supervisor.
Candidates selected for this position will telecommute and will be required to work according to the UEI Remote Workplace Policy and sign a UEI telework agreement.
Additional Work Schedule
Student Assistant and Graduate Assistant employees generally work up to 20 hours per work week (Sunday – Saturday) during the academic year and up to 40 hours per work week during breaks; (Winter, Spring & Summer).
Non-student employees will be hired as a part-time, casual employee. Casual employees are limited to no more than 19.5 hours per work week.

The Institute for Social Research (ISR) is an applied research institute within Sacramento State and has a long history of training Sac State students in applied social research methodologies for government agencies, non-profits, and the academic community. Our student research assistants have gone into graduate programs across the nation and obtained employment with local government agencies. Ability to work independently, and coordinate with supervisor.
Must be willing to commit to a minimum of one, four-hour shift weekly during data collection.
Must be vaccinated for COVID-19, or receive an approved exemption, per Sacramento State requirements.
Prerequisites
If you are a student applying to this position, you must be a college student attending classes during the regular term (Fall, Spring and Winter, if applicable), at an accredited college or university. Must be enrolled at a minimum in: six semester units or nine quarter units for undergraduate students; four semester units or six quarter units for graduate students.

Duties and Responsibilities
The California Tobacco Retailer Poll (CTRP) is an annual statewide public health survey administered by phone. Part of a larger state-wide evaluation, this phase of the project collects information on Tobacco Retailers’ awareness and feelings towards tobacco laws and regulations. This work will occur from January to April 2022. Our calling lab hours will be Monday through Friday approximately 9 am to 4 pm, and occasional Sunday shifts may be available. Shifts are typically two to four hours long and are adjusted for class schedules.
Physical Requirements
Sit for extended periods; frequently stand and walk; manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination; corrected hearing and vision to normal range; verbal communication; use of office equipment including computer workstations, telephones, calculators, copiers, printers and scanners with or without a reasonable accommodation.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in a home office environment.
