The PositionAPPLICATIONS WILL BE REVIEWED AS THEY ARE RECEIVED AND AS SUCH THIS RECRUITMENT MAY CLOSE AT ANY POINT BASED ON THE APPLICANT POOL.
This recruitment is being conducted to fill several extra help vacancies assisting Napa County Fire with their Vegetation Management and Chipping Program. Extra help assignments are non-benefited and may be used for on-call needs up to 40 hours per week (up to 1,000 hours per fiscal year).
Park aides assigned to the Vegetation Management and Chipping Program perform a variety of general labor tasks, including debris chipping and removal, general maintenance of chipper and equipment, as well as other duties as required and directed by the supervisors. The Fuels Reduction season begins in April and could go through November, possibly into December. Applicants to this recruitment will not be assigned to Parks and duties will be limited to the Vegetation Management and Chipping Program.
The Recruitment Process: **

Example of DutiesThe following duties are typical for this classification. Incumbents may not perform all of the listed duties and/or may be required to perform additional or different duties from those set forth below to address business needs and changing business practices.
Perform arduous activities including utilizing power tools; working safely with and around power tools; maintaining accurate documents; reading maps and may utilize GPS devices; keeping vehicle in operational readiness, perform minor maintenance on chipper; perform other duties as assigned.
TYPICAL QUALIFICATIONS:
KNOWLEDGE OF:
Basic hand and power tools used in vegetation management work.
Safety procedures and practices to be used in the worksite.
Basic operation of a computer.
SKILL TO:
Properly and safely use and care for hand and power tools used in chipping maintenance work.
Perform routine maintenance and custodial tasks.
Maintain accurate records and write reports.
Understand and follow oral and written instructions.
Work effectively with volunteers and the general public.
Tactfully provide chipping information, including rules and regulations to inquiring residences.
ABILITY TO:
Work safely and efficiently.
Perform heavy manual labor associated with vegetation management and minor maintenance tasks which may include lifting objects weighing up to 40 pounds.
Work outdoors in all types of weather conditions and may also be required to work in or around hazardous conditions.
Perform tasks which include the full range of body movements involving standing, reaching, bending, squatting grasping and climbing, which may include lifting objects weighing up to 40 pounds.
Work evening, holiday and weekend hours.
Utilize maps and/or GPS devices.
Travel to different sites and locations within the County of Napa.*EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: *Any combination of education and experience that would likely provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the knowledge, skills, and abilities would be: *Experience: *No experience required. Previous park maintenance experience desirable.
Education: Equivalent to the completion of the twelfth grade. Completion of college level coursework desirable.
License or Certificate*: Possession of a valid CA Driver’s License desirable.*Any license, certification, or registration required for this position shall be maintained (i.e. active and in good standing) at all times during employment with Napa County. For continued employment with Napa County, you must maintain such license, certification, or registration to meet the minimum qualifications of this position.
