Description of the College, the Arts and Sciences Division and the Art Department

The College:

Clackamas Community College (CCC) is a two-year, accredited, public community college in Clackamas County, Oregon, located just outside Portland. CCC’s mission is to cultivate equitable, innovative, and responsive education. Our 2021 through 2026 strategic priorities were formed to enhance and further our mission.

During the academic year 2020-21, Clackamas served 17,638 students (15,036 credit-seeking and 2,862 non-credit-seeking. Many credit-seeking students are low-income: 19% received some form of financial aid; 14% received a Pell Grant; 8% reported receiving no family support toward their college expenses. Many Clackamas students are nontraditional, including single parents, displaced workers, and students who may be unfamiliar with college processes. In 2019, approximately 32% of in-person students lived in rural areas.

CCC fosters an open, collaborative decision-making process

in which every voice is important. Staff, faculty and students actively contribute their views to help shape decisions and culture at the College. The College and the Art Department have a long-standing history of collective decision making with a central goal in mind – students must come first.

The Arts and Sciences Division:

The Arts and Sciences Division is one of four Instructional and Student Support divisions at CCC. The four divisions are: Academic Foundations and Connections (AFAC), Arts and Sciences (A & S), Institutional Effectiveness and Planning (IEP) and Technology, Applied Science and Public Services (TAPS). The Arts and Sciences Division includes nine departments: Art; Business & Computer Science; Communication, Theater & Journalism; Horticulture; Music; Science; Social Sciences; Water Engineering Technology; and World Languages. Our division works collaboratively to serve our students.

The Art Department (and Digital Media Communication program):

Clackamas Community College (CCC) offers art and digital media courses for students who intend to transfer, as well as students who are interested in art and/ or intend to complete an Associate’s degree at CCC. The Art Department offers courses and opportunities for students to explore their artistic potential and develop critical thinking skills with a creative mindset. Our foundational and intermediate classes serve college transfer students and all individuals who seek to develop ideas in digital, two-dimensional and three-dimensional forms. We are seeking a dynamic and creative candidate who can help to promote the arts and elevate student experiences.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

Teach college-level visual arts courses including but not limited to introductory Basic Design and Drawing. Other duties include:

Deliver face-to-face instruction as well as, hybrid and/or online instruction.
Hold regularly scheduled office hours.
Engage in course improvement and curriculum development.
Assist in the revision and development of course outlines, and other materials as requested by the College.
Assess student progress and courses.
Use of college management systems and software.
Attend and participate in department, division, and college meetings
Serve on institutional committees.
Participate in student/academic advising.
Engage in college-wide activities, community service, and project development.
Maintain professional, collaborative and supportive relationships with colleagues; assist other department personnel as needed, and as workload and staffing levels dictate.
Work with students, faculty and staff within a diverse, multicultural, collaborative environment.
It is expected that faculty members will participate in ongoing curriculum review and development, and course assessment activities. As the role of faculty evolves, responsibilities and expectations transform appropriately.

AUXILIARY JOB FUNCTIONS:

May provide assistance to other department personnel as workload and staffing levels dictate. Maintain work areas in a clean and orderly manner.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:

A Master of Fine Arts degree in art from an accredited institution.

Previous teaching experience in Drawing and/or Basic Design.

Ability to exemplify traits that reflect the College’s culture, including integrity, a customer service orientation, cultural competency, trustworthiness, flexibility and a willingness to change.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS:

MFA focus in Drawing and/or Design
One-year Drawing/ Basic Design teaching experience at an institution with a diverse student body as found at a community college.
Documented educational and organizational or professional activities that support innovative and responsive work
Experience with distance learning and the use of distance learning software such as Moodle, Blackboard, Canvas, etc.
Interest and/or experience in working with high schools and transfer institutions
Familiarity with a variety of educational theories and methods such as collaborative learning, computer-aided instruction, teaching and learning styles, student-centered evaluation and assessment, and proficiency-based outcome assessment.
Ability to work collegially and creatively and to communicate effectively with students, staff and the community.
Interest and ability to develop and promote art practices and ideas that consider a range of cultural experiences, and perspectives, especially from systemically nondominant communities.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS OF POSITION:

The position requires minimal (5-20%) physical effort such as lifting, carrying, or movement, etc. Movements required to complete work are not difficult, and only require some degree of agility and hand eye coordination.

The work environment is usually well-protected, with minimal hazards or obstacles (5-20%). There is little or minimal element of personal risk or hazard. Job conditions are usually comfortable, with minimal (5-20%) issues of confinement, temperature change, incident of noise, or interactions of a disagreeable nature, inside/outside work, dirty conditions, exposure to contagious disease, etc. Position may have minimal responsibility for driving.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Supervision of other personnel is not a typical function assigned to this position. May provide training and orientation to newly assigned personnel and may assign work to student workers.

Works under the general direction of the Dean of Arts & Sciences.
