Job Description : We’re hiring Library Support Specialists at Hillsboro Public Library. Library Support Specialists are the foundation of our public service team and the face of the library for our community. If you love working with the community and are passionate about connecting people to resources, we’d love to hear from you!What you’ll be doing*Library Support Specialists are the people our community connects with when they walk into our buildings or meet us out in the community.Your main job is providing customer service to library patrons in person and over the phone—helping people find library materials, navigate databases, scan documents, use e-books, or set up email accounts.You’ll become a patron account expert—from making new library cards to resolving questions about missing items, you’ll learn library policies and procedures, how to apply them, and most importantly how to explain them to patrons in a way that empowers them as library users.We’re busy! You’ll help patrons make meeting and study room reservations, register people for programs, and point people toward the event they’re looking for. It’s a lot to keep track of, but you’re up for the challenge.Learning—there are emails to read, trainings to attend, and always more to learn when it comes to finding ways to serve our patrons.Joining one of our many staff teams or work-groups—this could mean processing interlibrary loan materials, answering email inquiries, making sure book displays are stocked and looking great, putting together book recommendation lists, presenting storytimes, or coaching patrons in our makerspaces. We want to know what you love to do, and we’ll work with you to find opportunities to channel those skills and talents into serving our patrons.Pitching in to keep the library tidy and making sure materials flow smoothly—everyone helps shelve books when needed, cleans up the scattered toys in the children’s room, and restocks the library card supplies.Each day is a little different when it comes to working with the public. Working with the public means that no two days are the same, and our ideal candidate finds that energizing.For more details, please click on this link for job classification description: Administrative Support SpecialistAcceptable Experience and TrainingRequired: High school diploma or GED and 3 years of customer service experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job such as those listed above and outlined in the job description.Preference may be given to candidates who are bilingual in Spanish, or another language that is widely used in the Hillsboro community.We encourage persons with non-traditional skillsets and experience to apply for this role, and we will consider transferrable skills when reviewing applications for meeting minimum qualifications.Additional InformationBilingual incentive pay availablePreference may be given to candidates who are bilingual in Spanish/English.Employees who can demonstrate the ability to speak Spanish, or any language spoken by over ten percent (10%) of City residents as documented by the most recent U.S. Census, at a proficiency level determined by a fluency test administered by the City, will receive a monthly premium of three percent (3%) of their regular base pay.Full-Time OpportunityWe currently have full-time Library Support Specialist opportunities available.This recruitment may also be used to fill full-time, part-time, and on-call vacancies that arise during the next six months.On-call/flexibly scheduled staff help cover absences and support public service during busy seasons, including holidays, school breaks, and trainings.
