ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES
Duties may include:
Conducts legal and legislative research using legal resource tools and databases; assists attorneys in performing initial research related to complaints or claims such as statutory and administrative rules, digests, and annotations; and organizes research materials in a reasonable manner to access for drafting motions and other legal documents.
Assists attorneys by gathering information related to criminal or civil investigations, or in response to a tort claim notice; assists in scheduling meetings with named parties, factual witnesses, subject matter experts, and others involved in court proceedings; schedules and participates in strategy sessions; and prepares information including timeline or chronology of key events related to cases; communicates with opposing counsel, co-counsel, clients, court personnel, outside agencies, and others to facilitate the progress of cases or to fulfill requests.
Assists and coordinates with attorneys in the discovery process; identifies third-party information and drafts subpoenas for review; drafts discovery requests and responses; drafts pleadings, motions, affidavits, notices, and other documents in compliance with court rules and formatting requirements for review by attorneys; proofreads, shepardizes, and cite-checks pleadings and briefs; and assists attorneys in scheduling depositions.
Reviews, organizes and indexes documents; sets up and maintains master set of documents for each case; gathers and prepares documents and exhibits for depositions; and uses manual and electronic methods to locate, identify, and organize documents in response to requests for public records.
Assists in creating a positive and supportive work environment; enforces a safe workplace; establishes a culture of teamwork and communication; creates a workplace that promotes the organizational values of workplace diversity, equity, and inclusion; and actively promotes an environment respectful of living and working in a multicultural society.
Prepares for and attends trials and court proceedings; prepares exhibit and witness lists; coordinates with vendors regarding preparation of exhibits; organizes exhibits, files, and other supporting documents; coordinates logistics related to trial set-up; assists in the preparation of witness testimony; and assists attorneys in the courtroom by taking notes, handling exhibits, marking documents referred to by attorneys, and filing documents.
Coordinates ordinance preparation and review with attorneys and County staff; identifies legislative history; and coordinates code administration, ordinance codification, and publication of County code to state and federal laws, County code and charter, and administrative rules.
Attends meetings with attorneys and staff from County departments; performs research in the areas of municipal corporations, labor law, criminal law, land use, and ordinance enforcement; and drafts factual and legal memoranda.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
A typical way to obtain the knowledge and abilities would be:
A Bachelor’s Degree in paralegal studies from an accredited university OR the successful completion of a comprehensive formal paralegal degree program approved by the American Bar Association; AND
Three (3) years of responsible paralegal experience performing legal work in the area of civil litigation or criminal prosecution.
Any combination of experience and training that would likely provide the required knowledge and abilities may be considered.
Preferred Qualifications:
Knowledge and experience in criminal law

Selection Process
1. An evaluation of training and experience of submitted application packets will be performed by Human Resources. This process will begin the week of March 14, 2022.
2. A Subject Matter Expert (SME) Panel will perform an evaluation of experience and training taken from your employment application materials to include responses to the supplemental questionnaire. This process will begin after March 21, 2022.
3. Our goal is to schedule oral panel interviews with candidates that successfully passed the SME evaluation step as soon as possible.

This is a non-represented position and is not covered by a collective bargaining agreement.
Regular and limited duration full-time employees working 30 hours or more per week and job share employees are eligible for benefits beginning on the first of the month following employment.
