This is a non-professional position performing direct nursing care duties, transportation, and security, at an adult mentally ill forensic facility. Employees are subject to the volatility of psychiatric, forensic patients in a therapeutic inpatient hospital setting. Employees must use some independent judgment in the performance of this work. Error in many areas could cause negative consequences. This work requires skill in working with mentally ill patients, employees and the general public. Requires physical agility in order to respond to a variety of patient care andsecurity related functions. Oversees and participates with patients in therapeutic activities of daily living and diversional activities.

Required Education and Experience
Education

Completion of 21 semester (32 term) college credits including 15 semester (23 term) credits in one or a combination of the following areas: counseling and guidance, psychology, sociology, social work, human services, social services, criminal justice, criminology, family relations, pastoral counseling, nursing, occupational therapy, and recreational therapy.

Experience

Forensic Security Assistant 8
No specific type or amount is required.

Forensic Security Assistant 9
One year of experience equivalent to a Forensic Security Assistant 8.

Forensic Security Assistant E10
Two years of Forensic Security Assistant experience including one year as a Forensic Security Assistant 9.
Additional Requirements and Information
In accordance with the CMS Omnibus COVID-19 Health Care Staff Interim Final Rule, this position requires proof of one dose of COVID-19 vaccine by 1/28/22 and second dose (of 2 dose series) by 2/28/22. If you wish to pursue a religious or medical exemption, please indicate such if selected for the position.
Special Requirements, Licenses, and Certifications
Eighteen years of age at time of employment.

Willingness to submit to a thorough background investigation designed to measure the applicant’s suitability for forensic security assistant work.

Successful completion of required training.

Possession of a valid driver’s license.

Leave Time

Full-time employees receive between 15 and 35 vacation days per year. Paid Parental Leave

Provides eligible individuals up to 12 weeks of paid leave immediately following birth or adoption of a child.

Deferred Compensation

Employees may invest income in a tax-deferred retirement investment program. The state offers two optional deferred compensation plans, the 457 and 401(k). Employees decide the amount deducted from their paychecks.

Retirement

Employees receive a minimum 4% state contribution toward their retirement fund. If an employee elects to contribute more, the state will match up to 3%. The Office of Retirement Services administers two different retirement plans for State of Michigan employees: Defined Benefit (DB) and Defined Contribution (DC). New hires can also receive up to a 2% employer match into a Personal Healthcare Fund and a lump-sum credit to a tax-deferred account if eligible.
