Have you ever wanted to work at one of Oregon’s amazing State Parks where you are able help create special memories for visitors recreating in a remarkable 1800 acre forested playground located in the valley foothills of Oregon’s premier Northern Coast Range? Do you enjoy working with, and supporting people in an outdoor park environment rich with many different recreational opportunities and experiences? Do you have experience with park and facility maintenance, campground operations, volunteer coordination, interpretation, and giving presentations? This position works closely with our local communities, volunteers, and user groups to help create a uniquely diverse and sustainable recreational opportunity for all visitors. Just a few of the user groups you will be frequently interacting with are: volunteer groups, friends groups, disc golfers, equestrian users, trail maintenance and project groups, multi-use trail groups, mountain bike groups, and astronomers. What you will do:
As a Park Ranger 1 at L. L. Stub Stewart, you will assist staff in the protection, maintenance, operation and repair of state park lands, natural and cultural resources, structures, facilities, equipment and systems.
In this role, you will perform a variety of park operational tasks such as: janitorial work, landscape maintenance, safety, interpretive, and visitor services. Some work may require the most elementary skills in: building trades, including carpentry, electrical, plumbing, painting and landscape maintenance. Additionally, specialize skills in park maintenance and operations may be required. On a task specific basis, you may guide the work of individuals or teams composed of volunteers, seasonal, and/or temporary state park employees.
Minimum Qualifications:
Two years of visitor services experience (e.g. rule enforcement; interpretation such as education and environmental awareness programs; special events and activities; etc.) AND/OR maintenance experience (e.g., construction trades, landscaping).

An Associate’s degree in Park and Recreation Administration or Natural Resource Management or Environmental Studies and 6 months of visitor services experience (e.g. rule enforcement; interpretation such as education and environmental awareness programs; special events and activities; etc.) AND/OR maintenance experience (e.g., construction trades, landscaping).

What we are looking for (Desired Attributes):
Skill and knowledge of specialized park resource and facility operations and maintenance and/or resource interpretation and trail maintenance.
Skill in maintaining composure and taking appropriate action during emergency or emotionally charged situations.
Skill in planning and organizing equipment, materials, volunteers and staff to accomplish work.
Skill in resolving customer complaints related to overnight camping and park rule interpretation.
Skill in developing and delivering presentations and products within established resource interpretation programs.
Skill in listening to what people say and asking appropriate questions to obtain needed information.
Skill in giving direction concerning work procedures to individuals or teams composed of volunteers and correctional facility inmates in accomplishing different and varied tasks to achieve goals.
