Job Description : Job Description Summary:
Position Summary: Directs all functions relating to general safety and maintenance service for the hospital, grounds and other hospital properties. Serves as hospital Life Safety Code Officer. Coordinates the hospital Emergency Preparedness Program with the LH system Emergency Preparedness Officer.
Position Responsibilities
Directs and oversees all maintenance activities as it relates to the present and future campus and buildings, equipment, systems and grounds for the hospital and other properties. Oversees the processing of maintenance requests and concerns and insures completions in a courteous and responsive manner. Insures 24 hour maintenance coverage for the facility. Establishes and monitors a preventive maintenance schedule for all equipment and monitors maintenance schedules to insure the work is completed when due. Establishes and monitors all preventive and limited construction schedules on the hospital buildings. Co-manages the biomedical engineering program for the hospital and clinics. Schedules and monitors grounds keeping operations to include mowing, trimming, landscaping, snow removal and parking lot maintenance. Coordinates the disposition of hospital waste as defined in the hospital waste disposition policy. Insures that electrical inspections and preventive maintenance programs are carried out as required. Plans, recommends and coordinates changes to the physical plant. Establishes and maintains appropriate energy conservation measures and controls and monitors utility usage consistent with quality patient care.
Serves as the Life Safety Code Officer for the hospital. Responsible for Life Safety Code compliance per CMS regulations and Critical Access Hospital Conditions of Participation. Responsible for the investigation of hazardous material related accidents and hazardous vapor monitoring. Monitors departmental procurement storage use and disposal of chemicals used, and assists in the coordination of identification and classification of hazardous material. Organizes and is co-chairperson of the Hospital Safety Committee and insures that committee meetings are held per hospital policy. Responsible for the coordination of the hospital overall safety program to include new employee orientation, safety inspections and the hazardous material education program. Manages an ongoing hospital-wide process to collect and evaluate information about hazards and safety practices. Identifies safety management issues, addresses and relates them to the Safety Committee.
Supports the LH system Emergency Preparedness Coordinator.
Participates as a member of the Unified Emergency Preparedness Committee of Kalispell Regional Healthcare. Participates as an ad hoc committee member of the LHW Emergency Preparedness Committee.
Leadership and Project Management: Demonstrates professional management skills and leadership, personal motivation, written and oral communication, judgment, organizational ability and continuing education. Serves as an ex-officio member of the hospital board’s Building and Planning Committee providing current information on projects, anticipated needs and general operations. Provides Planning, Design and Construction project management for hospital building and property renovations, additions and new construction.
Manages the hospital and hospital owned and leased buildings telecommunications systems.
Ensures continuous operations of the telephone systems and equipment for the hospital and hospital owned and leased buildings.
Coordinates improvements and upgrades, as needed, with telecommunications providers.
Ensures long term durability of hospital and hospital owned and leased buildings’ telephone PBX and key systems.
Oversees the Hospital Security Program.
Schedules and manages the hospital security team in coordination with the KRMC Security Director.
Monitors security incidents and develops after action and improvement programs based on recorded events to ensure patient, staff and visitor safety.
Manages the hospital card access system.
Manages the hospital and clinic video surveillance systems.
Oversees staff to support department operations. Interviews and hires staff which support our culture. Oversees department training and orientation. Evaluates staff within the appropriate time period. Addresses employee relations issues according to policy. Addresses staff turnover and utilizes retention strategies. Maintains an excellent department safety record.
Oversees financial performance of department(s). Prepares and monitors budgets. Forecasts revenue and estimates expenses. Monitors monthly budget reports. Provides monthly variance reports. Measures and evaluates departmental productivity.
Manages opportunities for performance improvement. Identifies opportunities for quality improvement. Works with others to develop a plan of action. Implements changes and monitors results by submitting timely reports to the performance improvement committee.
Other duties as assigned.

Reports any violation or suspected violation of this Code or other hospital policies or procedures to supervisor, Compliance Officer or through the compliance hotline. Attends and/or completes mandatory training regarding organizational compliance.
Education and Experience Requirements
Required : Minimum high school graduate/GED. Experience includes 5 years in building operations including HVAC, electrical or equivalent required. Experience in low pressure boiler operation and the ability to be licensed. Experience with working knowledge of plumbing and electrical systems. Basic carpentry and painting skills. Experience with working knowledge of compressors. Experience with and a working knowledge of plant controls systems. A working knowledge of equipment preventive maintenance. The proper and safe operations of hand and power tools. Ground maintenance and waste disposal. Basic computer skills using Word and Excel. Requires current Montana Drivers’ License; driving record will be reviewed through background check.

This is a full-time, salaried, exempt position.
