Supplemental Questions:
As a Park Ranger, you will be responsible for the completion of many grounds keeping and maintenance duties. What is your experience conducting grounds and facility maintenance? As a Seasonal Park Ranger, your busy season will be June through August. Are you able to work full time during the summer, including weekends and holidays without fail?
Special Information:
This job will be split 80/20 between Black Sandy and Spring Meadow Lake State Parks in Helena, MT. The work schedule is approximately 6 months spanning from May through October.
Job demands multitasking between demanding physical and in office computer work as well as interacting with the public.

Job Duties:
The Park Ranger (Generalist) job purpose is to assist park managers in all daily operations of a unit or units of the State Park System. This work will primarily encompass broad administrative, operational, maintenance, and public relations activities. This position will also be tasked with conducting park rule compliance duties within the scope of their training and providing operational support to the park manager for daily park operations, employees, visitor behavior, facilities, and grounds within the State Park. This position provides essential services and tasks as they arise, such as building and grounds maintenance and cleaning, park rule compliance, fee collection and remittance, interpretation and education, Reservation system administration and other various responsibilities. The Park Ranger position will work under the immediate supervision of the Park Manager and will provide direction for other park staff and volunteers. In the absence of the Manager the incumbent may be assigned acting Manager responsibilities.
Physical and Environmental Demands:
Ability to sit or stand for long periods of time.
Ability to work in environmental extremes for long periods of time.
Ability to assist public independently, in extremely harsh terrain, and at night.
Occasional travel.
Working odd hours, weekends and holidays is required.

Qualifications:
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (Behaviors):
Knowledge of recreation management, familiarity with natural and cultural resource management principles, including historical and current issues.
Background in natural resources, recreation, and cultural resources.
Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, in a concise and interpretable manner, with department employees, the public, special interest groups and appropriate land management agencies.
Proficiency in the safe handling and operation of site-specific modes of transportation, such as motorized and non-motorized watercraft, bicycles, and snow machines.
Knowledge of the laws, policies, and regulations under which the agency operates.
Ability to negotiate, explain, and diffuse conflict among parties with differing views and visitors frustrated with department/site rules and policy.
Ability to work effectively in extreme environmental conditions.
Willingness to work in various locations, conditions, and variable days/hours.
Must behave ethically and appropriately when serving visitors.

Minimum Qualifications (Education and Experience):
The knowledge, skills, and abilities of this position are normally attained through a combination of education and experience equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in park and or recreation management, archeology, geology, or related fields. Other combinations of education and experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
