Job Description : Duties
As a Motor Vehicle Operator your duties will include but are not limited to the following:

Incumbent may be called upon to perform tasks that involve assisting biologists in collecting biological data and other miscellaneous duties that do not require specialized skill, training, or experience.
Performs fish cultural work as related to caring for eggs, fry, and fish throughout the rearing and distribution cycle. Monitors appearance and activity of fish for obvious signs of disease, overcrowding, and adverse water conditions. Feeds fish using automatic and/or manual feeding methods and monitors feeding responses and suggests changes as needed to biologists.
Cleans intake structures. Flushes, cleans, and sterilizes raceways, troughs, hatchery tanks and recirculation system components. Prepares and administers drugs and chemicals for fish disease, and water quality, under the control of a supervisor. Records daily feed amounts, mortality numbers, and water quality parameters. Maintains imperiled aquatic species.
Operates gasoline and diesel vehicles, distribution trucks and tanks, cars, pickups, trucks, forklifts, or tractors, UTV’s, and Cushman’s, with gross vehicle weight of up to and including 40,000 pounds or more with a load capacity of 6 tons or more 10% of the time. The vehicles usually have two or more gear ranges capable of providing six or more forward speeds, have six or more driving wheels and are usually equipped with air brakes. Operator may drive over rough, unimproved roads and will need to determine manner and sequence of loading to achieve balance and protection for fragile items. A commercial driver’s license will be required.
Performs preventive maintenance and minor repairs on motor vehicles, distribution trucks, fish feeders, lawn mowers, water pumps, and utility trucks used in the operation of the hatchery. Preventive maintenance tasks may include the replacement of filters, changing oil, lubrication.
Performs adjustments to the water supply system to regulate a variety of automatic or manually controlled equipment necessary for the production of fish to ensure maximum safety and health of the fish. Operates and maintains equipment such as gates, pumps, valves, filters, and sterilizers to regulate water quality and quantity.
Performs ground maintenance duties including mowing lawns, weed eating, using blowers, trimming shrubs, planting trees, spraying, and other associated work.
Assists higher graded employees in performing plumbing work involved in modification and repair of aquariums, hatchery tanks, and lines. Plumbing tasks may include the replacement and cleaning of faulty plumbing fixtures including leaky drains, dirty traps, and commodes as well as installation of water lines, pumps, and valves.

Commercial Driver’s license: Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) is required within 6 months of employment date.
